  Finally arrived! On the first application it sounds like a spice explosion like Viktor&Rolf’s SpiceBomb, but then something more liquid and fruity enters, akin to Pure Malt. Overall, it’s a spiced and spicy opening, nothing intrusive, very sweet with that alcoholic touch. Rather than coffee, to me it smells like a cappuccino, a mix of chocolate and coffee. What a pity it has that coffee-chocolate note; if it weren’t so, it would be the perfect option after Pure Malt.

  This special edition of A*Men is the closest I’ve found to the original. It opens with lavender, coriander, a touch of bergamot and mint, but soon patchouli and coffee take over, giving me that caramelised coffee or burnt barrel vibe. At five hours it’s still strong, revealing cedar and that chilli heat; it’s perhaps a little sweet, but not as much as the box screams with its ‘eat with caution’ warning, ha, ha. By twelve hours, the dry-down is dominated by musk, vanilla and coffee (I don’t notice much tonka). It’s a good woody oriental that recalls the classic A*Men, with that spicy twist in the middle. Ideal for winter: heavy trail at first, then moderate but present, lasting around twelve hours. More potent for night out with friends and holds up well in smoky venues.
