  • Received as a gift in those lovely 25 ml bottles. It’s my favourite of the four. At first, it smells of powdery, creamy rose—quite overpowering, but exactly what I was drawn to, reminiscent of YSL Paris. Then that heaviness fades, becoming aquatic and ozonic, like Yssey Miyaki Pleasures. It smells clean with roses, not soapy. I love it and might restock it as an affordable alternative to those expensive fragrances, perfect for use as a cologne given the generous volume.

  • It is advertised as eau de parfum but it isn’t. It boasts Art Deco aesthetics and a Provençal origin, yet the rose scent struck me as artificial, like fabric softener with a dirty green base. The second time I tested it on skin, the opening was aromatic with licorice and bitter herb nuances, but it vanished within half an hour. From there to three hours, it smells like dishwater, just like those pink floor cleaners I mixed with bleach during the pandemic. It has its audience, but for roses, I prefer the classic and reliable, such as Tea Rose by The Perfumer’s Workshop.

First things first: this is cologne, not perfume. It manages a weird trick between grandma’s air freshener and a teenager’s body spray. The fruity notes cut through the initial floral burst, while the woody base prevents it from smelling like it’s from Mercadona. The rose is synthetic and goes unnoticed thanks to the jasmine and lily, although sometimes the flowers sound like rare violet sweets. Ideal for spring if you don’t want something cloying or overly green, but be warned: it lasts 20 minutes and is only suitable for spraying on your pillow. The bottle is pretty for decoration, but if you want real, cheap roses, buy the large tub from Instituto Español: 5€ for 750ml and it smells like a real rose, without any glass-cleaner aftertaste.

I’ll speak only of the first ten minutes because afterwards it’s a placebo. This isn’t perfume; it’s a floral cologne that miraculously avoids smelling like a matron’s room freshener or a fifteen-year-old’s body spray. The fruity notes cut through the initial floral burst, while the woody base balances the youthful air so it doesn’t smell like something from Mercadona. Rose isn’t the main accord, which is good; it’s a synthetic rose that goes unnoticed among the lily and jasmine, though sometimes the flowers sound like rare violet sweets. Recommended for spring if you want to avoid the cloying or the green, but it lasts only 20 minutes and is only suitable for spraying on a pillow. The bottle is pretty for decoration, but if you want real, cheap rose, buy the large bottle from Instituto Español: 5€ for 750ml and it smells like true rose, without that glass-cleaner aftertaste.
