Neither here nor there, it’s not a bad fragrance but I expected more compared to Xerjoff’s Capitale. Capitale turns it inside out, it is denser and a better perfume for me. It has that touch but it doesn’t cast a shadow on Capitale.
I was gifted a decant of Maison Peony and wanted to try it. It’s not bad, it smells like a millionaire, with a feminine tendency. I don’t understand the listing: it doesn’t smell like blackberry, yes it smells of strawberry but very synthetic. The strongest note is licorice, which isn’t listed, perhaps from the blend of cinnamon and cedar. It smells medicinal, like a pharmacy, but that doesn’t make it cheap. It smells very elegant of licorice, something that should give a headache but doesn’t, and is pleasant on another person. I wouldn’t wear it myself as it tires me; luckily the longevity is moderate, after four hours I couldn’t find it on my wrist. But for three hours the trail is heavy, then my skin eats it all up.
What a beautiful Venom Incarnat, it reminds me of those resinous Lutens perfumes. For a moment I thought of my beloved Feminite du Bois, for its density and darkness, but this is all fruit. Dark, mysterious, carnal and cosy. It opens with strawberry and leather, then comes out with sweet blackberry and a soft cedar. It leaves me with a sensation of rich blackberry jam. Fixation and projection are excellent, nothing synthetic like other red fruit scents.
At the risk of sounding mad, it smells like the pages of Geronimo Stilton books, but in the best possible way. A 10.
They say you need a lot of money to look cheap, and with SHL, especially Venom Incarnat, Pink Boa and God of Fire, the phrase rings true. Kitsch bottles that look like white-label brands, blends that mix the serious (spirits, leather) with the childish (candies, fruits) at ridiculous prices. Am I a fan? Yes. I absolutely love these expensive toys that smell like strawberry vape juice in a golden snake bottle. Venom Incarnat is wonderful: the incense and smoky leather give body to a playful base of strawberry and caramel. Luxury trail and longevity, with a dry-down where all the notes remain. Chef’s kiss.
