Today I had the opportunity to try it and it did not impress or please me; it is a strange fragrance, it does not stand out in scent or quality. It has the chocolate and caviar notes very present. Moderate longevity… a disappointment in my view from such a prestigious house as Carolina Herrera.

It is a perfume that has surprised me enormously; it smells very gourmet with those notes of caviar, pepper, nutmeg, and chocolate. It is the first perfume that lasts more than 12 hours on my skin; it is intense in its heart facet and seductive. My rating: Scent 9.5/10, Longevity 10/10 (on my skin), Sillage 8.5/10. I really like the 212 line, and this will become my personal fragrance. The bottle is attractive. I thought I found a similarity with Axe Chocolate, haha, but only in the opening notes.

This weekend I was able to try it at a department store in Mexico City (Liverpool), where they promote these two new Carolina Herrera fragrances a lot. Although it is a flanker of the original 212 VIP, I must say that somehow it captivated me. At first, it was just the bottle that invited me to try it, although I was a bit apprehensive since I like the original 212 VIP Men; I think it is the gin note that I cannot tolerate on my skin; it happens that I like the perfume, but when I try it on myself, I can’t stand it (the perfume stays original, I’ve checked that my pH doesn’t change it), and people like it, but I get nauseous from that note and can’t wear it for more than three hours. Despite this, I tried to give it a chance because I saw it didn’t have that note and added chocolate, which interested me a lot, as with the caviar I thought it would be very unbalanced. And it managed to captivate me in the most unexpected way. At first, you perceive it as a very simple fragrance, aquatic, a bit of lemon (similar to Nautica Blue or any sporty perfume). After wandering through the perfumery and watch sections, I reached the confectionery area; there, with a hand movement, I felt a very strong aroma of nutmeg and chocolate. I thought it was from the same chocolate source I had passed moments before, so I didn’t pay much attention to that heavy aroma. After about an hour, I entered the cinema; while watching the movie (almost an hour and a half), the intense chocolate and wood aroma hit me again, creating a smell similar to the original ‘Fan di Fendi’ for men but more gourmand. The case is that my arm was resting on the armrest, and the distance to my nose was about 70 cm, and yet the aroma still had power, although the warm environment also made it feel excessively heavy. Realising this, I set out to check its longevity and quality; approximately 8-10 hours, with the last two close to the skin but without needing to seek the scent. Today I returned to the store to verify if it had the same evolution as yesterday, and I can say yes; it is one of the few fragrances I like where the notes are distinguished by the period of time their change is noticeable, creating that magic that perfumes started to have. In my personal rating: Scent 8/10, it has a good aroma and a very unusual development. Longevity 9.5/10, as nowadays fragrances last less, this one goes beyond the average. Sillage 8/10, it is good, very suitable for going out at night with friends to quiet places and standing out; dinners and family meals make a presence with this. Worth buying: if you like the gourmand/wood combination, give it a chance before buying, but simply do not judge it during the first two hours, let it evolve and adapt to you. In conclusion, it is a good fragrance, a flanker of a flanker, but it does not disappoint and above all retains that essence of the original 212 VIP, but in a more ‘coquettish-innocent’ way compared to the original. Definitely it will go on my shopping list.

  • This week, at least where I live, I was able to try this limited edition. It is a very rich and sweet perfume, less flashy than 212 VIP Men. It is almost totally different from 212 VIP; I noticed it was very similar to CH by Carolina Herrera due to its sweet and fruity notes. The truth is that I love CH and I also liked this one very much. I could say it is 80% similar to CH and 20% to the classic VIP (a very good combination). For those who like CH, this would be an intense CH with striking notes. It is not a club night perfume like 212 VIP; it is much calmer but distinctive. The bottle keeps that magnetic cap like all 212s (I think that idea looks very good). It is golden; it even made me think of 1 Million (but obviously not the scent). It is a highly recommended fragrance; it is nothing extraordinary found in perfumeries, but very rich. And for those who collect perfumes, this could be one to collect. This is my simple opinion, greetings.

I bought it recently and haven’t fallen in love with the perfume yet. It gives me the impression of being for young people, for summer night outings, but at times it reminds me of the hair spray women used. Perhaps I’m not using it at the right time. I do notice that the 212 men’s line is very popular with women, but for me, after a while, they get tiring; I don’t know why. I will give this new edition of 212 VIP another chance. Greetings from Argentina.

  • I don’t know about you, but I found it a bit feminine. I own the CH and prefer it much more; I feel it is more masculine than this VIP; I even like the original VIP more. I tested it in a famous store that was promoting it; I wore it for a while, and it seemed similar to a women’s perfume. I only liked the chocolate note if it was very prominent.

  • I tried it a few days ago and liked it at first: citrus, aquatic, and sweet opening, then it moves to a woody and spicy scent while maintaining a moderate sweetness. The problem is that after three hours it becomes very sweet, with a powdery chocolate that I found more feminine than masculine. The trail was moderate to heavy and lasted about six hours, with the last two hours only close to the skin. I’ll stick with the traditional 212 VIP.

Since I have a decant of Club Edition, I can finish my review. The opening is potent, with chocolate, lemon, and pepper; it reminded me of the opening of Ferragamo Uomo, but more pleasant. Then, the chocolate and nutmeg take over, a dark, powdery chocolate, with a metallic aquatic base. In the dry down, I love it: the nutmeg and chocolate fade, and it smells like the dry down of Nuit de l’Homme, just more masculine. The longevity and projection are good, though a bit feminine. On its own, those woody notes remind me of CH Men’s Cashmere.
