Volcano, as its name suggests, explodes with olfactory experiences from the very first second. It takes you to places you’ve never been and makes you stand out through your scent. The opening of Bulgarian Rose, ginger and nutmeg is easy to enjoy, albeit with a potency that not everyone can handle at first. The OUD is ideal for those wanting to dive into this unique world. The quality of House Carner is sublime, an author house at a moderate price for the artworks it creates. A volcano in its purest form.
The rose hits hard: wet, dark yet warm thanks to the spices, frankincense and woods. Over time, the oud emerges, here it’s soft, fresh and wearable (I normally can’t stand regular oud). You can also detect laudanum and plenty of benzoin, which sweetens everything and keeps it light. It’s a westernised oriental: sweet and smoky rose, rich in spices but without weight. Lasts all day on dry skin, projecting for about 6 hours (on clothes until washed). For me, it’s an acquired taste; the cheese-like note of oud is difficult for me, but here it’s subtle, ideal for trying it out. I didn’t like it at first, but its smoky-spicy facet won me over. It’s a special rose-oud, distinct from others, like mixing a classic with an amber-spiced one. Totally unisex, for winter, any time of day. Perfect for someone mature and aloof, though my partner says it makes me look super sexy. Pleasant: 7/10 Interesting: 6/10 Versatile: 6/10 Original: 7/10
Brutal and dark scent: spiced rose, frankincense, patchouli and oud. The first 20-30 minutes are a cloud of nutmeg that overwhelms you, but then it settles into something creamy and slightly sweet. It’s an opulent rose-oud combo that works beautifully together. I see it as unisex, perfect for cold weather and semi-formal occasions. Lasts 7-8 hours on dry skin with strong initial projection. It’s an absolute beast of a fragrance and performance that deserves to be known.
