Cuirs is an absolute stunner that caught me completely by surprise. It is superbly balanced: although it has body and features woods, spices, and leather, it comes across as powerful yet delicate and easy to wear. At first, it smells very woody, with a sweet and resinous touch. To my nose, what stands out most is the sandalwood and labdanum blended with tonka bean and patchouli, all wrapped in a lead leather note that is quite friendly. You can detect the oud and saffron, but they are more subtle. It is totally unisex, though I think men will gravitate towards it more. Suitable only for cold or mild days. It is versatile, but not for very casual occasions. The projection and trail are moderate, lasting around 6-7 hours on skin. I absolutely loved it; it is one of my favourites from the house.
Cuirs is spectacular and worthy of praise for the Spanish house Carner Barcelona. What a brilliant job they have done. It is a very well-executed fragrance: it starts soft with saffron and then gains strength in the evolution with aquatic touches, woody notes, and a magnificent iris. It has a good trail and longevity. It is absolutely unisex and perfect for anyone who wants to make a statement with elegance and distinction.
Spray it twice and you’ll notice that Cuirs is not flat leather; it has a quiet, deep darkness. Nothing superficial, though it recalls Black Afgano almost like a twin, but drier and with a sweet touch. It begins sweet and resinous, perhaps more contained than Nasomatto, which is brutal right from the start. The cannabis note is more modest, while the saffron and cumin blend into a very soft base. It costs a third of the Gualtieri version, is very portable, and has good longevity and projection. However, Black undoubtedly wins on intensity and power. If you are looking for a more domesticated, wearable, and affordable BA, this is your opportunity, although I remain with the Italian one: deep, strong, hypnotic, and psychedelic. (Thanks, Sejano 77)
Trying it reveals that the great success lies in its versatility with difficult notes like leather and oud. Carner has managed to bring these notes down to a point of balance so they perform without being intrusive or staying too close to the skin, making it a good option for work, night outings, or romantic dates at any time of year below 25 degrees. It feels like a light leather and oud, very subtle but perceptible if you get close enough. In my opinion, it leans more towards the masculine side. The longevity is up to the standard expected of a niche fragrance, as it lasts around 12 hours.
Once tried, what convinced me most is its versatility: it tames difficult notes like leather and oud without them being intrusive or staying too close to the skin. The result is a perfect balance for wearing to work, going out, or on a romantic date, provided it is not above 25 degrees. It is clear that it is a fragrance of light leather and oud, subtle but perceptible if you get close. In my judgement, it leans more towards the masculine side. The longevity is what one would expect from a niche: it lasts around 12 hours.
