Perfumer
Laurent Le Guernec
Laurent Le Guernec, a perfumer born in Paris, has significantly impacted the world of fragrances by expertly combining his passion for detail and his knowledge of classic French perfumery with a touch of contemporary American flair. His unique approach to creating perfumes and his ability to work with floral notes have earned him global appeal and a reputation as the master of floral notes.
Born in January 1967 near Paris, Laurent Le Guernec spent part of his childhood in Grasse, the world capital of perfume. He recalls being surrounded by beautiful fragrance bottles, as his mother and grandmother would often perfume themselves. During his chemistry studies at the University of Paris, he met the prestigious Institut Superieur International de Parfums, Cosmetiques et Arômes Alimentaires (ISIPCA) in Versailles, France. Inspired by his grandfather, a craftsman and artist, Laurent decided to pursue a career in perfumery.
During his studies at ISIPCA, Le Guernec worked for Laboratoire Monique Remy in Grasse, a leading natural raw materials manufacturer in the industry. This opportunity allowed him to master the use of natural raw materials, particularly with floral notes. In 1991, he moved to the United States to work at Fragrance Resources, where he gained invaluable experience working closely with the prominent perfumer Pierre Bourdon. Another of his notable mentors includes the Master Perfumer at Givaudan, Jean Claude Elena.
Laurent’s association with Mane fragrances led to the creation of several successful scents, such as the FIFI award winner Michael by Michael Kors and the fragrances of Bond No. 9. He currently works for International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF), focusing on fine perfumery.
Laurent’s training in both French and American culture enables him to create brilliant, crisp, and precise perfumes that appeal to a global audience. As a visual person, he draws inspiration from images, individual flowers, bouquets, and the colours that make them up. He brings this heightened awareness and appreciation for art, creation, and aesthetics to all his creations.
Laurent has worked with a variety of outstanding brands such as A Lab on Fire, Alfred Dunhill, Avon, Banana Republic, Bond No 9, Calvin Klein, Caswell Massey, Christian Lacroix, Clinique, Dolce&Gabbana, Elizabeth Arden, Ésika, Estée Lauder, Guess, House of BŌ, Katy Perry, Kenneth Cole, Liz Claiborne, Lucky Brand, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, MojoMagique, Nateeva, Natura, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sofia Vergara and Vince Camuto.
Some of his most popular perfumes include Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely, Katy Perry Killer Queen, Michael Kors Michael, Guess Guess Seductive Noir Women, Avon Christian Lacroix Absynthe and Alfred Dunhill Icon Racing.
Laurent Le Guernec believes that perfume is a medium to help consumers achieve their deepest desires for eternal youth and sensuality. He continually seeks out new sensations, as the senses feed the soul and the soul allows us to appreciate the senses.
