Ursula Wandel
Ursula Wandel is a highly respected perfumer and Vice President of Fine Fragrance at Givaudan. She discovered her passion for perfumery through a combination of curiosity and her training in chemistry. Initially interested in photography, her desire to explore led her to the Givaudan perfumery school in Geneva.
At school, Wandel spent her first year getting to know around 3,000 natural and synthetic raw materials. In her second year, she refined her skills by imitating well-known perfumes. In her third year, she began to create her own creations, developing her unique style in the world of fragrances.
Throughout her career, Ursula Wandel has established herself as one of the best perfumers in the industry, creating scents for a variety of fashion brands and celebrities. She has designed five fragrances for Nina Cerruti and perfumes for the supermodels Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell.
To date, Wandel’s most successful fragrance is "Hugo Woman" by Hugo Boss, which has received widespread recognition. After training with a master perfumer and spending time in Asia, she returned to Europe and continued creating captivating fragrances.
Ursula Wandel believes that creating a successful perfume is an art that requires more than just a "good sense of smell". She emphasises the importance of curiosity and an affinity for exploration in developing a perfumer’s skills. Wandel’s creations are a testament to her dedication to the craft and her commitment to perfecting her talent.
Wandel’s work with Givaudan has spanned more than five decades, during which she has contributed her expertise to numerous brands and fragrances. Some of the most popular fragrances she has created include Hugo Woman, Boss Intense and Boss Soul from Hugo Boss; Naomi Campbell’s namesake perfume; Hypnôse Senses by Lancôme; and Image by Cerruti.
In addition to her work with these brands, Wandel has also collaborated with Adidas, Avon, Azzaro, Betty Barclay, Boucheron, Chopard, Dueto Parfums, Laura Biagiotti and Yves Rocher, among others.
