Boss Soul by Hugo Boss is a spicy oriental fragrance for men. Launched in 2005, this composition was created by Ursula Wandel. This perfume is a marvel; it reminds me of Myrurgia’s Vorago, but ultra-improved.
It’s a bit strong, but rich and wearable. The pepper and anise notes, combined with the citrus hint of lemon, are noticeable from the moment of application. The downside is its short longevity (around two hours) and a moderate trail. The bottle is simple but pretty. I’ve worn it day and night; in my opinion, it’s better for winter days as the scent is a little strong, and at night only in smoke-free places, otherwise the smell fades due to its short duration. Overall, it’s good and I recommend it to those who don’t like soft or fruity perfumes, but prefer a marked spicy scent.
A soft yet highly spiced scent. At first, it reminded me strongly of Hugo Boss Bottled. I can’t distinguish all the notes, but I detect pepper, amber, vanilla, and anise. The dry-down is pleasant and sensual, though for a spiced oriental it feels a little weak. The trail is low, but the longevity exceeded six hours, albeit close to the skin. It suits a wide age range. Ideal for fresh, cold, or slightly warm days as it isn’t intrusive. I recommend testing it before buying blindly.
It has finally run out, and I would definitely buy it again.
Excellent perfume, smells soft yet at the same time aggressive.
Its scent has a huge similarity with La Rive Black Line; both are exquisite. The opening is intense with cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg, then it moves to vetiver, orange and lavender… Very good, it is a safe and timeless purchase, which is the best of all.
The anise and coriander give a shy but elegant touch to this fragrance. If you want a unique aroma without falling into the invasive, I recommend it. Longevity: moderate.
I have a distant memory of this perfume… I bought it at a small shop, persistently influenced by its owner, as she couldn’t sell it to anyone (I realise that now). I used it for a while; I remember its extreme sweetness, ambered, with a slight touch of anise. I gifted it to a relative, who I believe enjoyed it.

My story with this fragrance is similar to @jimblue’s. It was one of my first, and I was testing various scents in the store. Perhaps overwhelmed by so many smells, when Soul arrived, that picky pepper note caught my attention and played with my senses. I took it home, and the next day, the pepper opening was wonderful, but after thirty minutes, the combination of cinnamon and nutmeg became fatal, causing a headache and nausea that lasted the remaining four hours I perceived. In the end, I couldn’t enjoy the musk; there were still lingering traces of the invasive nutmeg and cinnamon. I don’t recall what I did with the bottle. I think I was very young and amateur back then to understand it (I was sixteen). Perhaps it is time to try it again now with a more trained nose.

A very pleasant and easy-to-wear fragrance. Perfect for a date, a walk, dinner, or shopping; it makes the person with you feel lucky to be with someone of class and good taste. It doesn’t offer anything new nowadays, perhaps when it was launched it proposed something different, but it has the great merit of combining trendy notes to perfection: cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, vanilla and tonka bean. It is spicy and subtle, not as sharp to the nose as Spicebomb, without the dark tone of Bvlgari Man in Black. Boss Soul with its amber sweetness is more refined and mature.
For me, and this is a very personal opinion, it is the best perfume I have ever owned. The scent is unmatched by any other; it has its own identity. It is warm without being overwhelming, discreet, and intimate. Its heart and base notes provide good support that contrasts with the delicate opening. It is perfect for romantic and close encounters, where a very strong perfume would be uncomfortable. The spiced aromas stand out, and although not mentioned, it has a leather touch that makes it very masculine. As I said, it is a perfume you know others won’t wear in the same place. It is exclusive and unique.

Soul by Hugo Boss is a perfect title for such an intimate and soft fragrance. For those who prefer discretion, it is ‘on the right track’. The composition is balanced; I detect lots of Iso E Super, a woody-amber note with nuances from the woody side of violet. Black pepper and nutmeg give it a dry twist, nothing sweet or cloying like many modern masculine scents. The remaining components are dosed very discreetly.
My cousin gifted it to me a few weeks ago; her husband brought it from Spain and had kept it stored for several years, using it only a couple of times before letting it gather dust… It is a seductive perfume with a sweet touch but feels modern, not like something for an older gentleman. I see it for someone in office or smart casual attire, with dress shoes and a long-sleeved shirt. It reminds me greatly of BOSS Bottled; they are very similar. Regarding longevity, close to the skin it lasts about eight hours, as having been stored for years, it has aged very well.
My cousin gifted me this a few weeks ago; her husband brought it from Spain and had kept it for years. He only wore it a couple of times before it was forgotten… It’s seductive, with a sweet yet modern touch, not smelling of an old man. It suits office wear or smart casual outfits with dress shoes. It reminds me hugely of BOSS Bottled; they are very similar. In terms of longevity, on my skin it lasts about 8 hours; having been stored for so long, it has intensified considerably ❤️.
My favourite from Hugo Boss. I used to wear Dark Blue, but the formula changed. This one brings back so many good memories from 2005, 06, 07 and 08.
