Vanitas is a gourmand paradise: imagine floating amongst cotton candy, gummy sweets, and clouds. It’s a fairytale where imagination and childlike happiness reign. The opening is so sweet that many will find it unbearable; literally, it’s like bathing in syrup and rolling in sugar. After half an hour, it settles down and becomes delicious. The orange blossom, sandalwood, and myrrh don’t stand out, but they add nuances, depth, and balance. It reminds me of Pink Sugar, which I dislike for being synthetic and tooth-achingly sweet; equally sugary but with an unpleasant bitter licorice note. Vanitas is a simple yet addictive version, more adult, airy, soft, warm, and refined, without the licorice and with triple the longevity. I use it more for ‘personal enjoyment’ than for going out, so I’d buy the 18ml decant. The sillage is moderate and the longevity is tremendous, lasting over 12 hours. Profvuvm Roma is unstoppable, ideal for those who want to live in a vanilla and cotton candy factory.

I love the opening: a very well-executed vanilla with a floral touch from the orange blossom and myrrh, giving a slight smoky sensation that makes the vanilla seem a bit burnt. Perhaps the sandalwood adds a woody base, but it doesn’t dominate. Gradually, the orange blossom and myrrh fade, leaving an excessively sweet vanilla, as if mixed with sugar, sometimes giving a sweet shop vibe. The dry-down is practically identical to the heart, perhaps with even more sugar. The performance is exceptional; the first time it lasted a long time with just a few sprays and good presence. Totally suitable for cold weather and I see it as a feminine fragrance, although I used it while being a man. I liked it, but more for smelling on someone else. It’s too sweet and quite linear (only changing from opening to heart). I love the initial vanilla and the smoky sensation of the myrrh. I would have preferred the opening to last longer, to be more linear and maintain that initial scent. A little less sugar wouldn’t go amiss.

Very sweet vanilla with subtle hints of myrrh and sandalwood; I perceive nothing else, just a gourmand that smells like a sweet shop. Too bland, linear, and sweet for me, but if you like gourmands, give it a try; the vanilla is very well done.
