This new Mango line caught my attention from the start. The bottle is gorgeous: heavy, high-quality, with a stunning atomiser that is super delicate and dispenses evenly. I’m thrilled it’s a house collection evoking Mediterranean cityscapes, rather than one that imitates others like Zara. I tried several and liked most of them, but I chose this because I was looking for something subtle for work. ‘Dolce Far Niente’, the pleasure of doing nothing, the name alone is enchanting. It’s feminine, very soft, with no projection; that intimate scent you feel yourself and others only if they are very close. It opens floral-fruity with a just-right sweet pear, white flowers, vanilla and perhaps coffee. As it dries, it becomes creamy, velvety, very much a skin scent, probably due to the cashmere. It has a clean note that I like. It’s versatile, ideal for the day or places where you can’t wear much, such as in healthcare, and great for home or bedtime because it’s cosy. The performance isn’t beastly (it’s an EDT); I notice it lasts up to three hours, but if you apply it with joy, it lasts longer. I don’t mind, but if you’re seeking potency, take a look at Hédonisme, which is a treat of neroli and jasmine. EDITED: After using it, I note that it is a toned-down version of Black Opium and several in the collection recall commercial perfumes, so I withdraw my comment on originality.
I’ve just picked this up. At first, upon spraying, it reminded me of a lovely scent I already knew and liked, but now my doubts are cleared: it’s the little sister of Black Opium. The longevity is similar, almost symmetrical to the original I own. I’m delighted to have found it because with the original I have to be more sparing when applying, whereas with this one I won’t hold back. It’s good, intimate and huggable, perfect for everyday wear or for bedtime.
