Snagged it from an online outlet store and paid a pittance. Smells like a baroque oriental jewel—beautiful yet unobtrusive, very elegant for this winter. Lasts about four or five hours on my skin and leaves a trail reminiscent of old-fashioned toilet soap. I’m delighted with my blind buy.

Stumbled upon it by chance on a website; I liked the bottle, the name, and the brand. Everything seemed so ‘comme il faut’ that I was surprised by the price. I looked up reviews and read nothing but praise, especially on Fragrantica, so I bought it. The opening is soft, then coriander bursts forth with notes of bitter orange and mint. Soon the sandalwood settles in. I can’t separate the florals; up close it smells of coriander and sandalwood, while from a distance it evokes low scrubland with gorse, rosemary, and thyme. A rugged, revitalising scent, nothing excessive. I wear it occasionally. Those claiming it’s ‘sun in a bottle’ seem exaggerated, and those comparing it to La Nuit de Noël are mistaken (my vintage is magical; I haven’t tried the new version). I’d give Montaigne a 3 out of 5. It might improve with another wear. The longevity is excellent and the trail is good without being intrusive (or so I hope—I’ll have to ask).
