  It delivers on its promise: lemon and ginger, just as advertised. It is ‘bright’, fresh but slightly ‘zingy’, like the 10 am sun in spring or early summer. A good option for days when you seek a simple, clean and different aroma, a sort of ‘anti-congestion energy’.

  It’s a refreshing lemonade, citrusy, barely sweet and very natural. With just two notes, alongside the lemon, I detect a sparkling touch of bergamot. The base is spicy and woody; I suppose dried ginger and soft vetiver. It melts into the skin leaving a clean, musky trail. I love it for springs and scorching summers, extending the freshness after a shower. It recharges you for the day with a happy, vital smile. By night, it calms and relaxes you for dreaming. Doctors should prescribe it and save people money on pills. Very affordable, 170 ml for €20 on offer. It is a cologne water, the trail is almost skin-deep and lasts about two hours. What can we do, but while it lasts, it smells exquisite. Beautiful frosted glass bottle, no plastic. It comes in a splash with a built-in atomiser, thank goodness because without it, it lasted me only four days. Unisex and reminiscent of Eau d’Hadrien. As a drink, lemon and ginger are said to aid weight loss; as a scent, it dispels the gloom and brings out the best in me.

  La Barzelatto casts a shadow over simple, advertising-style colognes such as 4711; while expectations are high regarding value for money, it ultimately feels basic and volatile. If you try the brand, especially the vintage or reserve version, you will understand what I mean: the quality and scent are far superior across the board.

  I bought it blindly, expecting something special like the others in the line, a blunder: from the start, it smells of the familiar lemon detergent known here, what a disappointment. I started to get used to the smell but only use it to scent the room. I know it’s not bad, but I can’t help that association. It smells too much of pure, hard lemon.

  I bought it blind, expecting something special like the others in the line, but it was a mistake: from the first moment it smells like that lemon detergent found around here. What a disappointment. I got used to it, but now I only use it to scent the room. I know it’s not a bad smell, but I can’t help associating it with that. Sorry, it smells too much like straight-up lemon.

  I liked it for its freshness; it smells more like verbena than lemon, very ‘sparkling’. Fresh, summery, like a morning at the beach bar with a beer or lemonade. It contains lemon, citrus, mandarin, orange, and neroli. A joy of scents, but not the classic kind.

Linear and with an embarrassingly short longevity, perfect if you’re after a straightforward lemon scent without the sting. Reminded me of Jeanne en Provence, but with much milder citrus notes.

As a cologne, don’t expect longevity or projection, but it’s super personal, clean and discreet, until it enters aromatherapy territory with its ‘revitalising’ bottle. Plus, the price is a bonus. Ideal for citrus fans.

As a cologne, don’t expect longevity or sillage; it’s very personal, clean, and discreet. It even fits into aromatherapy (the bottle says ‘REVITALISING’) and the price is a bonus. Highly recommended for citrus lovers.
