  Today I wore the 2005 Bijan Black for Men at the request of azuriiita. It’s an aromatic fougère where sandalwood, pine, lavender, and a citrus touch (bergamot and orange blossom) take centre stage. If you don’t like pine (because it’s so common at Christmas), run! It smells of pine (bark and fruit) but above all of sandalwood. It’s a fragrance made the old-fashioned way, without an olfactory pyramid; all the notes (pine, orange blossom, sandalwood, amber, lavender, musk, vanilla, jasmine, vetiver and bergamot) blend and evolve together. If you’re not a fan of old-school scents, this won’t be your favourite, but if you are, this wonder has its place. If you dislike the reformulation of Halston Z-14, this is a great substitute. Recommended for fresh climates (autumn, four-season areas) and preferably in the evening (it’s formal and elegant). Age: +30 (it’s distinguished, not for ‘oldies’). It’s quite strong and intrusive, not for enclosed spaces (avoid in the office). A curious detail: I felt a lot of nostalgia on first contact with my nose. I give it 4.25/5.

  A friend brought this back from Miami, and I later found out she paid just $5 on sale, so it’s worth the price. The scent remains identical from start to finish, lasting about as long as an aftershave. I love perfumery in general, but this didn’t do anything for me; it feels very little European and distinctly modern with that American touch. If Old Spice launched a ‘Pure Classic Green’ line, this would be the fragrance. By the way, I still haven’t found anything from Black. The only good thing is how pretty the bottle is.
