  • Obsessed with resins and incense, I tried this BOSS The Collection and stumbled upon an amber and vanilla blend with balsamic notes: I like it, but it doesn’t quite convince me. From start to finish, amber, vanilla and resins dominate; it’s velvety, delicate and fragile. I see it as unisex, yet with a feminine soul; I’d prefer to smell it on a woman for that fragility, although it’s totally unisex, it’s just my opinion. Despite having few notes, it’s not linear: depending on the phase, one note stands out. At first, a slight balsamic, almost citrusy hint emerges over an elegant background of amber and vanilla. Then, the balsamic recedes and the sweet, resinous amber shines over a light, slightly medicinal vanilla. Finally, the amber fades, leaving a fine vanilla with very faint resinous and balsamic nuances. Overall, it’s pretty and elegant, but sweetly generic, nothing original, with exaggerated softness, too ethereal, it lacks body, I don’t know if I’m explaining myself, but that’s how I feel. Performance is average: about six hours on me, moderate-to-low projection, almost skin-close from the start. Ideal for fresh or temperate climates, day and night, but due to its softness, more for daytime. The packaging is magnificent, box and bottle are beautiful and high quality, but I think it’s just a decoration to distract attention from mediocre content, beware! I don’t mean to offend, just stating my objective opinion. It’s sweet and pretty, but somewhat generic; I recommend trying it before buying if you can, because if not, I wouldn’t recommend it, there are better alternatives at lower prices. Update: I’ve read that batches from 2015 of this collection underwent reformulation, losing intensity and longevity, they say they feel diluted. My decant is from 2016, so keep that in mind when evaluating it and it’s probably the cause of this lamentable performance.
