  A very pleasant fragrance in my opinion. The downside is that it doesn’t have much longevity on my skin, I suppose because it’s an ‘after-shave’, which I understand are less concentrated in aromatic components; but I will buy it again if they don’t discontinue it.

  Tough, tough, maaan… I want to be a macho man. Smells like Marlboro, 1979 vibes and such. Nowadays, you don’t find anyone on the street smelling like this.

  The American cowboy image is faithfully portrayed here. Chaps was probably the first hit from the US school, thanks to the marketing and that scent embodying the tough guy of the 70s. It smells of mature, transparent leather, with an intense, heavy oakmoss-sandalwood accord that recalls old cypresses and fougères, but marking a key aromatic advance: it is the genesis of the brand’s style, the original version of what would follow, Polo, Crest, Safari… An aunt gifted me my uncle’s bottle (+)(55/120ml). It is the traditional (splash) but comes in a leather shirt sleeve, looking luxurious or perhaps an early edition. After two hours, a fresh, mature leather dominates with oakmoss, wood, lavender and a spiced citrus touch. Chaps is a real treat! It’s the perfume of an era when people smoked Marlboro and boots were the in, with quality ingredients. Although hard to find and not timeless, it is a genuine American perfume, the first of a style that still reigns in the brand’s philosophy.
