Costa Azzurra by Tom Ford

It smells nice, but it neither lasts nor projects even freshly applied, it’s not even a fragrance you can smell on yourself, you have to get close to where you applied it to smell it, nothing to say about the smell, it’s exclusive, yes, very little comparable to others, perhaps very softly with the invasive Ebene Fumé, in the drydown, but miles away in intensity, only in the scent, as they say you don’t expect from a perfume over 250 USD that you can’t smell it and that’s regrettable.

I went in with high expectations and found it quite disappointing. Both this one and the parfum. Pretty average scent and very poor longevity. Fresh woody with a strong presence of cypress and a good touch of lemon in the first few minutes. Over time the woody and herbal notes become more noticeable. It’s easy to like, you won’t dislike it but it’s not a fragrance I’d put high in any ranking. 6/10

MEDITERRANEAN SERENDIPITY The discovery of this perfume was, without a doubt, a beautiful and pleasant surprise. I was looking for a fragrance that was refreshing and formal for the heat of my city (with temperatures over 35 degrees and arid climate). In particular, I had in mind other more well-known fragrances like Imagination by Louis Vuitton, Acqua di Giò Profondo by Armani and even Aventus Cologne by Creed. However, a friend recommended that I explore classic Italian fragrances. My father has worn perfumes of this style almost all his life, so that DNA is quite easy for me to appreciate. Still, it is clear that it is a fairly common style, and I was looking for something more unique… and that’s where, by twists of fate, I ended up discovering this marvel that would become one of my five favourite perfumes. Its opening is somewhat polarising, to be honest. It feels like being on a jetty: that smell of sea, wood and a light touch of algae, where the other notes blend in to reinforce that experience. After about 5 to 10 minutes, the perfume evolves into a garden bathed by the sea breeze: a cypress accompanied by citrus that is spectacular. The flowers accompany masterfully, without imposing, simply complementing the composition. As time passes, the citrus and woody profile begins to fade, giving way to a more mature character. Curiously, that sea breeze is perceived again, as if you were in a cypress forest after light rain or facing the sea. All this evolution happens over about 4 to 6 hours. After that time, there is a considerable decrease in the power of the perfume, staying closer to the skin. In this final phase, the scent becomes woodier (the cypress drowns amongst cedar and vetiver), very well accompanied by incense, and stays like that for about 2 or 3 more hours. I tried this perfume under the blazing sun, on cloudy days, in the rain and even on hot nights. From my point of view and that of those around me, it is a quite versatile, pleasant and extremely unique fragrance (at least within what I know). I highly recommend trying it, since, if you are used to the DNA of Italian colognes, you will feel that it is a natural and elegant evolution of that style. I consider it suitable for almost any season, except for very cool autumn and intense winter. You get its maximum potential in spring (both cool and warm) and in summer, especially in places where this season also means rainy season. A perfume that I don’t see as totally fresh although perfectly wearable in summer. I notice the herbal notes much more than the citrus, which I perhaps only find in the opening. Huge resemblance to L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme Intense, the latter being somewhat heavier and with more longevity but they are sisters. Honestly, for the price difference I’ll stick with Miyake.

Costa Azzurra is a fragrance that manages to capture the essence of the Mediterranean with an aromatic, woody and citrus profile. What makes it special is its marine facet blended with a fresh spicy touch and a base of amber and herbal notes that give it a very solid and elegant structure. Personal impressions: It became an instant favourite. I’ve had the chance to try several Tom Ford fragrances and I felt many smelled old-fashioned or were too strong, to the point of being suffocating. In contrast, this is one of the best in my opinion for being so balanced, citrusy and marine. Style and scent: It’s a perfume that leans blue, which makes it very versatile and easy to enjoy. I really like it because it has good sillage and it’s a scent that people around me usually always like. Performance and use: If I have to say something negative, it’s that it lasts less than expected for its price; you’d expect longer-lasting performance from a house like this. Still, it’s a fragrance I really enjoy and that I save mainly for special occasions, although I also wear it from time to time to go to the office.

@Leandro the same thing happened to me with Ombre Leather. In my case it’s undoubtedly authentic. Also bought at an Argentine perfume chain and I think what’s happening, based on my case and other reviews, is that Tom Ford is drastically lowering the quality of its raw materials. A shame because the scent compositions are very good but not its lamentable performance

What can I say about this perfume, the elegance it conveys takes me to the Italian coast from the very first spray, exquisite perfume for summer, good longevity and very elegant. The only thing I wouldn’t highlight is its price, very high, but honestly for me it’s worth it.

Good perfume for hot weather and somewhat in autumn. I love the scent but I wish it lasted longer.

The first time I tried this fragrance, the experience was so powerful that I promised myself not to buy it until I could say in my life “I’ve made it,” with regard to all the goals I have. Because yes, this perfume is for someone who is successful in life in general, it doesn’t shout, but it’s there, admiring everything achieved on a summer morning on the coast of Portofino in Italy, he’s just made his coffee and is about to go down to sail on his yacht, ready to spend the whole day sailing aimlessly, carefree, but with more goals in mind. I’m going to buy it soon…

Brilliant for any time of day, I love it, super versatile, long-lasting. The truth is I don’t much like the opening, but after 1 hour on skin it’s exquisite!! Recommended for ages 25 and over.

In the opening it’s a very pleasant, masculine and elegant fragrance, if it kept that same line all day, it would be one of my favourite fragrances, however, in the dry down it smells like freshly bathed dog, like that perfume they put on dogs in grooming salons, I didn’t like it at all, I have good pH for perfumes and a perfume in its dry down had never disgusted me so much, it smells like dampness and pet soap

Ladies and gentlemen, if elegance had a name, it could easily be Costa Azzurra. This outstanding citrus-woody aromatic work from the house of Tom Ford achieves an extremely harmonious and beautiful combination, including numerous woods, along with fresh citrus notes like lemon and mandarin, and aromatic touches of lavender and cypress, among others. This fragrance exudes class and sophistication, making it an exceptional option for any occasion. Personally, I don’t consider myself a fanatic of citrus fragrances, although I appreciate them; they are not usually among my favourites. However, Costa Azzurra not only catches my attention in a positive way, but also draws me in to want to keep smelling it. It is an excellent recommendation for those looking for an elegant and versatile fragrance. Without a doubt, a luxury worth experiencing.
