It’s the first letdown from this house. Initially, it smells of resinous and spiced leather, very uncomfortable and challenging, yet ultimately uninteresting. I detect no cinnamon, orange, or anything else, nor do I smell the incense, which is supposed to be a key note. I attribute the dirtiness to the castoreum in the base. Furthermore, the longevity is very poor, something that doesn’t usually happen with their fragrances.

Katana has caught me off guard in 2023! I adored Cuir Vicuna. I thought it smelled of industrial oil and reminded me of Gucci, but upon applying it to my skin, what a surprise! It begins citrusy with bergamot and orange, but then balances into a dirty leather with balsamic styrax. It becomes natural, carnal, and seductive. That dark leather stops being challenging and turns into something enjoyable. The citrus notes fade and the leather dominates on the skin. A gem of the line that deserves a try.

I was pleasantly surprised by this creation from Katana. I expected a powerful, animalic leather, but it is surprisingly balanced and restrained. From the outset, the citrus notes dominate from start to finish, mixed with a potent scent that is less dirty leather and more incense, black tea, vetiver, and dark patchouli. The castoreum adds power without being overly animalic. In the end, it conveys the feeling of a polished, elegant black leather jacket, rather than a dusty brown one. It is uniform and evolves little, leaving the darker notes as a skin scent. Projection and longevity are moderate, but it persists on the skin. The only downside is the price: 280€ for 30ml.
