About Darkwood Rose

Darkwood Rose: A Shadowed Rose of Spice, Oud and Rum

From Alexandria Fragrances, Darkwood Rose is a musky woody floral scent for both men and women, first released in 2018.

The composition is by perfumer Hany Hafez, opening with fresh spice before moving to a green floral centre and a rich woody, musky, rum-led base.

Coriander, cardamom and lime shape the opening. It feels aromatic and coolly spiced, giving an initial lift.

The middle places Bulgarian rose — Bulgarian Damask rose — alongside southernwood, cypress and geranium, which lend a herbal, green edge to the flower.

Underneath, oud wood is combined with musk, patchouli, incense and rum, creating a deep, resinous and faintly boozy foundation.

The accord profile centres on aromatic, warm spicy, oud, fresh spicy and woody tones, supported by rose, musky, herbal, patchouli and powdery touches.

Rated 4.53 out of 5 across 15 ratings, it stands as a well regarded unisex option in the brand's line-up.

It will suit those who prefer rose without sweetness, lifted by spice and herbal greenery and grounded in oud, patchouli and incense.

A rose rendered in light and shade: vivid at first, herbal at its core, then dark and resonant through oud and rum.

  1. From a travel set I purchased a while ago, this is a fragrance that opens with citrusy touches which I even find slightly spicy combined with an exquisite rose, after a while you can sense a very pleasant musk which in combination with the rose creates an addictive aroma for me that makes me want to keep smelling it all the time. At moments it also reminds me of the smell of tobacco, like when your fingers are left smelling of cigarette but not in an unpleasant way. The only downside I find is that it doesn’t have much projection, and stays closer to the skin and clothing.
