CK Defy follows the trend of blue fragrances that are so successful; it’s basically Calvin Klein’s signature blue scent. At first, it smells fresh, clean, with that typical metallic aquatic touch of the style, but then it moves to a heartier, drier, slightly sweet core without losing its initial sparkle; everything is very balanced and subtle. The base is ambered. It’s easy to wear, ideal for heat. A safe bet that will please those looking for something simple and leave those wanting risky scents cold. I have a more complete review on my YouTube channel Perfume Pasión if you want more info.
A good men’s fragrance and finally a new release from the CK house.
We are in a fashion era with blue fragrances for men and roses for women. In Defy the colour of the liquid reflects the aroma very well. It’s fresh clean ozonic and citrusy. It smells like a summer breeze with a sporty young and informal style. It starts with a citrus note featuring a very aromatic bergamot accompanied by a certain touch of lemon peel (at least that’s my perception) which lasts several hours before evolving into a well-assembled synthetic vetiver with a certain ambered touch (ambroxan) that makes it clean and youthful. It’s not groundbreaking (nor does it aim to be) and yes it smells like known fragrances… but the performance is decent and it is masculine. Perfect for a young person or someone with a youthful spirit. Ideal for wearing during the day and afternoon at work or for sports and leisure moments. A very much in the style of Acqua di Gio but more ozonic. Acqua di Gio smells more like the sea. It’s made to please the masses and is honest. It’s worth the cost. It has good fixation and sillage. Would I buy it? No I prefer to smell more original but I would advise it to a man who is likable jovial and extroverted. A hit by CK.

Is it a fragrance that turns heads? No. Does it smell good? Yes clean. Performance? Very meagre. It’s a fragrance I’d use for going to the gym or when I don’t know what to wear as it’s a soft and low-risk scent.
To be honest I think it’s a terrible perfume. Poor projection poor longevity. I wouldn’t buy it even if they told me the discount is 60%. And if I win it in a raffle I’ll post about it just to get rid of it…
I tried it in a perfumery and literally had flashbacks of all the perfumes that smell like shaving cream haha nothing new.
I tried this perfume yesterday and it opens with a very citrusy note and a touch of lavender. I could say it also has a marine note as other comments suggest. Regarding performance and longevity they seem quite weak; shortly after applying it the scent stays very close to the skin and after two hours nothing is perceptible.
It reminds me of Nike Urban Wood Man.
Defy is fruity, aromatic and floral. An opening of aromatic apple with lavender and a base of amber and musk, very much in the CK style. It smells pleasant, clean and inoffensive, perfect for casual outings, the office or dates, because it’s empathetic and correct. That is both an advantage and a disadvantage: it can be boring, but hard to dislike, it’s politically correct. It lasts about six hours with a discreet projection. It’s not bad, it smells good, but after trying many perfumes it can sound familiar and stop surprising you. I invite you to try it and draw your own conclusions. By the way, it smells a bit like F by Ferragamo and a bit like Legend.
CK Defy is a fruity aromatic and floral fragrance. It opens with an aromatic apple note with a floral lavender accord and a base of amber and musk very much in the Calvin Klein style. It smells pleasant clean and harmless ideal for casual outings the office or dates as it is very empathetic and correct which is both an advantage and a disadvantage: on one hand it can be boring on the other it’s unlikely to offend anyone; it is politically correct. Its longevity on me was about 6 hours with a discreet projection. It’s not bad it smells good but if you’ve tried many fragrances it might remind you of others which could surprise you less. This is my opinion so try it and draw your own conclusions. By the way regarding similarity if my memory serves me right it reminded me a bit of Ferragamo F and a little of Legend.
It smells good yes but looking at the notes it’s easy to see where it’s heading. The performance is very poor it lasts a short time and it fades quickly. The price considering its performance seems disproportionately high. There are dozens of better options for what it costs. Defy is the ABC of generic male fragrance: as predictable as it gets without soul or art just pure product. I tried it in-store and today received a free sample confirming my bad impressions. Without offending anyone I would not recommend buying it under any circumstances.
Something curious happened to me with this perfume today. I tried it in a perfumery with a friendly and trusted sales assistant. Two sprays on the hand, upon leaving I couldn’t distinguish its notes. Except that it’s a slightly generic blue scent, something citrusy… Half an hour later I couldn’t smell it even up close. In other words, it disappeared completely. It escaped, it wasn’t there anymore. There was no perfume. Now I understand why it’s compared so much to the scammer Croxatto’s perfume. It never happened to me before. With the CK Defy, the famous escapologist Harry Houdini could have designed it for its performance.
Something strange happened to me with this today. I tried it in-store with a trusted sales assistant two sprays on my hand and nothing absolutely nothing of the notes came through. It just smelled like a generic blue and citrus scent. After half an hour there was no trace left; it had completely evaporated. Now I understand why people compare it to the swindler’s Croxatto. This has never happened to me before. For CK Defy Harry Houdini could have designed its performance.
It smells good, truly. Looking at the notes that make up this fragrance, it’s very easy to guess the aromatic direction. The performance is quite poor, it lasts little and is less noticeable. The price, given its performance, seems disproportionately high. There are dozens of better options for what it costs. Defy is the ABC of generic men’s perfume. Predictable to the point of no return, without soul or art, it’s just a pure and hard product. I already tried it in store and today I received a free sample for buying another perfume, and honestly I can only corroborate my meagre initial impressions. Without disrespecting the tastes of everyone, I would not recommend buying it under any circumstances.
Very good perfume lasts more than 6 hours super fresh and totally recommended.
I don’t understand the hate for this perfume. Although it’s a familiar structure of citrus and lavender, it represents well the identity of a fresh, pleasant, and clean aroma. I understand it’s not different from the market, but it delivers. It’s a good scent for everyday life, even for working out. Its longevity is the only weak point, but in my opinion, it performs better than other more expensive perfumes.
I don’t understand why this perfume receives so much hate. Although it is a fairly known structure of citrus and lavender, it represents well the identity of a fresh, pleasant and clean scent. I know it doesn’t propose anything different to the market, but it delivers. It’s a good scent for daily use, even for working out. Although its longevity is its only weak point, in my opinion it performs better than other more expensive perfumes.
The spray is very short and I think the price is too high for what it offers. Although it’s a well-known, linear fragrance for daily daytime use, at the gym, or informal outings, the performance is very low for what you pay.
The hate and jealousy-filled reviews don’t do this rich, different fragrance justice; it’s almost embarrassing. I have two bottles, keep buying more, and I’m close to owning 200 designer and niche perfumes. It smells superb, has a moderate trail with delicious bursts, and lasts eight hours on the skin.
Calvin Klein never fails, and not this time either. It’s a simple commercial formula; they’re not reinventing the wheel. This time I noticed they played with simplicity on purpose. I wouldn’t buy it myself as there are more interesting options from CK and other brands, but I see it as an easy gift. It reminded me of something from Avon, which isn’t bad; every brand has its own olfactory universe. The skin longevity is good, the projection isn’t overwhelming, so it’s ideal for the office.
I hope I finish this bottle and never buy it again… the scent is flat and lacks personality.
Let’s agree it doesn’t do much honour to its name, unless the challenge is finding something simple to be valuable, which in my case was achieved. As a woman who loves men’s blue fragrances, I must say I liked it and a lot. Is it simple? Clearly. But I feel we always wait for complex, bombastic, disruptive fragrances, I don’t know why, especially in times when almost everything is invented. And more so if you’re in the perfume world, we become demanding. In my personal case, I just love to enjoy a fragrance. Defy is the case. The only thing I reproach it for is its scarce longevity, but nothing new under the sun, so for me it doesn’t lower its price much. That bergamot/lavanda duo is very rich. On a scorching summer, it’s an excellent option.
Admittedly, it doesn’t live up to its name, unless the challenge is to find something simple, which it certainly achieves. As a woman who adores blue men’s perfumes, I’ve loved it. Is it simple? Of course. But I think we always expect complex and disruptive fragrances, perhaps because we’ve become demanding in perfumery. I just want to enjoy the scent. Defy is exactly that. The only downside is the short longevity, but that’s common. The bergamot-lavanda duo is delicious. In a hot summer, it’s an excellent option.
Smells nice but it’s flat, graceless, very generic and herbal-citrus. Not worth it.
Any challenge? Not at all. It’s a clean fragrance for work, soft, with green and earthy tones à la Tommy Boy, without pretensions. Opens with bergamot, pepper, and lavender, then settles into vetiver with a touch of amber at the end. It doesn’t last long but leaves a good impression. Suitable for any age and season, though more suited to daytime office wear.
Challenge? Not on your life. It’s a clean scent for the office, soft with those earthy green notes in the Tommy Boy style, with no pretensions. It opens with classic bergamot, pepper and lavender, then woody notes of vetiver root emerge, finishing with an amber touch that gives it shape within its short lifespan. Suitable for all ages and seasons, though it’s more of a daytime workhorse.
It left me surprised: fresh, sporty, clean, with good projection. While not groundbreaking, it does its job perfectly. The longevity is outstanding and the projection moderate. Ideal for hot days, the gym, or going out, whether formally or casually. It leaves you looking neat, sober, and positive.
I absolutely love the scent; it’s super fresh and aromatic, though it lacks a bit of longevity and staying power.
I think it’s a great scent. Fresh and aromatic. It would be super good if it had greater projection and longevity.
