DKNY Stories by Donna Karan is an oriental floral fragrance for women. Launched in 2018, the nose behind this creation is Stephen Nilsen. The top notes evoke milk mousse, guava, black cardamom and pink pepper; the heart reveals iris, white tea and sambac jasmine; while the base notes settle on vanilla, white sandalwood and grey amber.

  • It has a scent that stays very subtle on the skin, like a guava mousse. A fruity fragrance and perfect for summer.

  • Whitewaterlily89

It reminded me a great deal of Vera Wang’s Princess. They share a vanilla and guava scent, although in the DKNY the guava is more noticeable and in the Princess the vanilla is more prominent… but they are quite similar. It’s original compared to the other perfumes being worn lately, but it doesn’t quite take my fancy for the moment. I see it more for summer. That said, very good longevity.

  • This fragrance really impressed me. Stories is a floral elixir with sweet fruity touches and an intense woody tone. This fragrance bears the DKNY seal, manifested in jubilant notes in a fresh white tea that infuses into a balsamic bouquet aroma between black iris and jasmine, contrasting with exotic spices of pink pepper, modern gourmand sensations of a guava mousse, to finish crowned with warm and sensual sensations of sandalwood and amber, culminating in a sweet vanilla. As with every Donna Karan expression, the bottle is inspired by New York, the city that never sleeps, and in this case, by the iconic Empire State Building. Its aroma has small touches of Because It’s You by Giorgio Armani; on my skin, it performed for about 8 hours. Final rating: 8/10.

  • This really did surprise me; the guava and iris are beautiful, and the balanced sweet touch isn’t cloying, settling into a fresh trail of cardamom. A good Christmas purchase.

  • This was definitely an indulgence! Welcome to my collection, DNKN! You are sweet and fresh like a fruit straight from the tree, ideal for wearing on a summer outing where you want to look your best. Story has that sweet touch that isn’t cloying but leaves a mark. Its base smells of vanilla; it’s a fragrance that, being fresh, is very long-lasting, warm, and powdery. It’s perfect for me.

  • I have to say that I didn’t like its scent a bit, it’s a very intense caramel smell for my taste, very synthetic, so much so that it gave me a headache and a headache rebound at the same time, I don’t know if it’s due to my migraine problem. It has a longevity of over 6 hours, well, on my skin it adapted very well. The bottle is pretty and eye-catching, what a pity I didn’t want it.

  • Rosa del Mar

I never would have believed this aroma would impact me so much, because, you see… the first note I detect is creamy and very sweet, I think it’s the dulce de leche mousse and vanilla… but let’s admit it, dulce de leche smells like vanilla, so the notes are fused. The cardamom adds sweetness and balances with the pepper… but the green touch comes from the white tea, which maintains a constant balance with the perfume’s sweetness. This fragrance is wonderful; in my opinion, it’s ideal for cold days. It’s overwhelming and addictive. Love at first sight.

  • What a lovely surprise! I absolutely loved it. It’s a sweet, creamy fruity fragrance, where the dulce de leche mousse and guava really stand out. It has incredible longevity on the skin; it lasted 8 hours on me and even into the next day on clothes. I see it as suitable for any season, whether for a romantic occasion or daily wear. I wasn’t holding out much hope for this launch and I was utterly delighted, truth be told. My boyfriend is also going wild for this scent and insists I wear it every time we meet xD. When I finish my 30ml bottle, I’ll buy the 100ml without a doubt.

  • What a delicious guava cream! It caught me by surprise. It doesn’t smell like anything I already know. I think it’s an all-rounder, perfect for any time of year.

  • I bought it on impulse and when I used it for the first time, I regretted not hearing about it sooner. The opening notes are spicy, heavy, and invasive; I hated it instantly. However, as the hours passed, it changed into something fresher and sweeter, which I quite like, so in the end, I liked it a bit more. I wear it daily, applying it half an hour before heading out.

  • It’s sweet and pleasant, but for me, it lacks personality. I find it plain and nothing more. It smells very similar to how Givenchy’s Hot Couture dries down.

  • I see it as more gourmand than a floral oriental; very balanced and pleasant. It’s fresh fruit with a subtle sweetness (if not over-applied). The jasmine is exquisite and clean. I like it for spring, though it would be versatile if you adjust the number of sprays to the weather. I see it as everyday, casual to semi-formal, youthful and feminine. Highly recommended, nothing beats testing it on the skin.

  • I adore this perfume. Last summer I was gifted samples and used them at the beach until I fell in love. It’s the typical all-year-round scent, more for everyday wear. It’s not a night fragrance; it’s powdery, vanilla-scented, and elegant, very different from the usual sweetness. When I tried it, I thought: this is my perfume. Ideal for eating out, the cinema, or a walk. I recommend it; it’s one of my favourites.

  • I went for the blue bottle and the sales assistant suggested this. She tested it on my skin and no further words were needed. Farewell to the blue bottle (for now, haha). I find it gourmet, suitable for day or night, and not overwhelming. I was hooked by the dulce de leche scent and how well all the notes blend.

  • Ferchulis

What a treat! Sweet but without being heavy, fruity, with a touch of talc that doesn’t overpower. Easy to wear during the day in spring or at night for something informal. It reminds me of Extraordinary by Oscar de la Renta and has a bit of Mon Guerlain. I adored it.

  • Maru Maru

A penetrating yet pleasant fragrance, reminiscent of guava mousse with cream. It finishes with a lovely note of wood and talc. It was a gift and I absolutely loved it. I see it as suitable for any season and time of day.

  • I bought this blindly in the large size and would never do it again. It was far too sweet and cloying; with my sensitive nose, it gave me a headache. It lasts an incredibly long time on the skin and even on the pillowcase.

  • Rich, creamy guava sweetness with a powdery vanilla note, as if served on a wooden plate. The longevity is excellent.

  • It’s one of the sweetest perfumes I own, but I like it a lot, ideal for day and night. I bought it blind and have no regrets; if I had to choose again, I would.

  • A delight! For those who enjoy gourmand scents and always seek an autumn-winter vibe, it’s jovial, tender, sugary, and tropical. That guava, though synthetic, is memorable. What longevity! My favourite DKNY, I’m on the second bottle.

  • The opening is explosive with super sweet and creamy guava alongside the heat of pink pepper. I don’t perceive the dulce de leche mousse; I clarify that in Argentina we put dulce de leche on everything… literally everything. In the heart, flowers appear timidly, with iris standing out. The ambered vanilla arrives almost at the end to add roundness. It’s rich, though synthetic and sharp at the start, which some might dislike. On my skin, it lasts 4-6 hours with a strong initial sillage that fades. It could go in any season if dosed. It was a gift; I like it but I definitely wouldn’t buy it myself.

  • caritocarito

I bought it online thinking I’d love it, looking for a non-cloying summer scent, more fruity but lactonic. It’s pure synthetic fruit (I suppose guava), super artificial and smells half like chemicals (like floor cleaner) or overripe fruit (it reminds me of the Garnier oil tincture, ah). I don’t sense the DDL mousse or the vanilla, none of the notes, just poorly executed artificial fruit. If I’d smelled it first, I wouldn’t have bought it.

  • The same thing happened to me as to caritocarito: I bought it online with similar intentions… and I must admit it didn’t satisfy me; I perceive too much synthetic in a combination that doesn’t convince me. Anyway, it’s my personal opinion; another might find it fantastic.

  • I bought it without testing based on the notes and because it was on offer in Argentina at launch. I was aiming for the eau de toilette, but the price made me stick with this. I like how it sits the next day, but when I first try it, it comes out very strong and I don’t quite like it. The eau de toilette would surely feel fresher. I gave it a chance, but it’s not for me. I’ll gift it away. It’s lovely but not the style I feel comfortable in.

  • Danielle_Gris

I had high hopes. The notes seemed my type, but on me, it comes across as a watery, chalky version of Mugler’s Womanity (others have had the same experience), probably due to the fruit-tea-ambergris blend. It opens with a sharp pink pepper that mutes everything. Then an undefined fruit emerges, pulpy yet green, alongside synthetic and salty ambergris that smells like saliva, which is very strange. It ends with a powdery fruity-floral sensation. It’s not unpleasant, but it feels generic. I would have preferred riper fruit and the whipped cream. I was about to buy it blind, so glad I started with a mini. Longevity 4-6 hours, moderate sillage.

  • It’s identical to Vera Wang Princess, no doubt about it. I’m surprised it’s not listed among the similar scents.

  • I absolutely love it; it’s my go-to fragrance. On my skin, it stands out as sweet with an excellent fruity balance, a youthful and opulent scent. I’m smitten with the aroma and haven’t tried anything that comes close so far.

  • I tried this out of love for Womanity, but the resemblance isn’t real on my skin. Stories is sweet and heavy, whereas Womanity is metallic and cheerful; one feels like autumn, the other like warm weather. It opens with sugared guava that softens into whipped cream, lasting 5 hours and feeling very feminine. Then sweet vanilla blends with ambergris and tea, becoming more mature, like the candied sister of CK’s Reveal. Sillage and longevity are good (8 hours). It works, though it’s not my style. Pleasant: 5/10, Interesting: 6/10, Versatile: 6/10, Original: 7/10.

  • Giulialv98

It’s one of the fragrances that lasts the longest on my skin. When I first put it on, it stings a bit but calms down in seconds and leaves me super sweet. It makes a great combination with my pH; normally I have to re-apply, but with this one, it’s not necessary. For me, it’s a 10!

  • I bought it last year blind because it has gourmand notes, which are what I love most. The first time was an intense explosion with pink pepper and synthetic guava; the first few times I didn’t detect the mousse or the vanilla, so I left it. A few months later, I tried it again in autumn and the scent changed completely: I went from hating it to loving it. Although I still feel the spicy pepper, now I detect the guava, dulce de leche and vanilla as very rich and sweet. I recommend it for winter, autumn and spring.

  • It’s a strong fragrance with great sillage and sweetness. At first, I hated it for three years because I detected the vanilla-infused chocolate mousse, but now that it’s finished, I adore it, learning to appreciate the sweet. After the sweetness, it feels astringent and floral, like lemon tree blossoms. It’s winter; its EDT is much fruitier and richer, similar but not identical, and it also lasts longer.

  • fleur parfumée

It’s an exquisite fragrance, but unfortunately on my skin it doesn’t last anything like two hours and doesn’t project, but it’s so delicious I use it for personal enjoyment. I got it at half price. I feel the dulce de leche mousse and the guava strongly. Although it’s sweet, the flowers, sandalwood and amber give it the right touch so it doesn’t become cloying, making it ideal for spring days. I feel it’s feminine, relaxed and youthful but not for little girls; it has character and is subtle. EDIT 12 January 2023: I wore it in summer and sometimes I perceive a prickly, artificial, linear guava; on fresher days, I do feel the creamy note of the DDL mousse.

  • Dama Incognita

Literally smells like a guava dessert. In my country, there are sweets called ates, and this perfume reminds me of them. It has strong projection and long-lasting longevity on my skin.

  • MacarenaMaira131

I bought it blind. Upon opening, it reminded me of Paco Rabanne’s Pure XS. The sillage was pleasant, but on skin I didn’t like it: I felt the spices heavily, like cardamom, pepper, and above all amber. I didn’t detect the guava or the mousse. I had to throw it away because it was becoming too much for me.

  • FloorPerfumeadicta

Love at first sniff ❤️❤️❤️. I found it via a sample and it’s divine, sweet and citrusy 🍋. The guava is very noticeable with the vanilla and dulce de leche 😋. A treat! I love it ❤️😍❤️. Longevity, scent and sillage: 10/10. I’d buy it again always. So far, nothing compares; it’s unique and original. If you like sweet and citrusy scents, you’ll adore it 💓💓. It’s versatile and bears no resemblance to WOMANITY at all; the latter is very salty! 😁😁

  • I just received the EDP and although it’s rich, it feels much more oriental with the pepper and sandalwood taking centre stage. I’d stay with the EDT a thousand times: it highlights the guava, has a fruitier and more citrusy opening, a gourmand sweetness without being cloying, with more sillage and that dulce de leche scent. I see the EDP as more for night. Both are successes, but the EDT is more original and doesn’t resemble anything else; plus, over here in Argentina, they come with good discounts from time to time.

  • For me, it was a total fiasco. They promised dulce de leche and I got pure, hard guava, bordering on citrus mixed with cream, like a guava ice cream. Only for hot climates and the beach. The guava feels prickly and coarse, nothing like that sugary, creamy gourmand they sold me. It’s real guava, not dulce de leche.

  • I admit, at first the tea note shut me down, but with time the experience improved: the tart guava gives way to a spicy dance of pepper and cardamomo over a subtle vanilla. It’s not a fruity floral or a creamy sweet, but a fascinating ‘spiced sweet’ where the fruit feels wrapped in astringent spices, not cream. Smell it this way and you’ll change your mind: spicy and sweet guava with astringent spices and a vanilla base.
