Four Thieves Vinegar is a 1991 gem that L’Occitane revived in 2016. While the original was sweeter and warmer, this reformulation is super fresh, green, and citrusy, featuring a hyper-realistic oregano that smells of countryside rather than pizza. It changes on the skin: for me, it highlights camphor and herbs, whereas on clothes the woody notes take over. It’s not a cheap knock-off of a classic like 4711, but something unique. Longevity is moderate on skin (4–6 hours) but it lingers on fabrics. Ideal for those seeking a timeless, fresh, and versatile cologne, though I recommend trying it first as it’s very personal.
The opening of oregano is incredible: strong and citrusy, like a sharp lemon but with that herbal spring touch. If you don’t like that note, it’s not for you, but I think it’s brilliant; it reminds me of the oregano in Interlude but is much fresher and lighter, hitting the sweet spot. Apart from the oregano, there are plenty of spices and a good layer of lavender that makes it feel unique and well-crafted. Projection is low, but it lasts around 6 or 7 hours. I’ve enjoyed it more than I expected.

If you don’t like oregano, look elsewhere, but I find it amusing as it recalls the oregano in Interlude without being heavy. Beyond that note, there’s a good balance of spices and a layer of lavender that makes it feel distinct and well-made. Projection is low, but it lasts around 6 or 7 hours. Personally, I’ve enjoyed it more than I expected.
