Calling it ‘Embrace’ is a deception; I expected something creamy and enveloping, but it turns out dry, resinous, mature, and strictly formal. The name tries to soften a fragrance that is, in essence, rigid. It’s like calling a sandpaper glove a ‘caress’. They claim it’s unisex, but I see it as 100% masculine—who the hell would say this is unisex, mate? Over 35 is mandatory; on a 20-year-old, it’ll look like they’ve raided their grandad’s wardrobe. It’s for winter and late autumn when temperatures drop below 15°C; in tropical or humid climates, forget it: you’ll smell like a man who hasn’t changed his clothes. It shines on grey, rainy days with falling leaves. That’s its comfort zone. It’s an evening and night fragrance; I’d wear it from 5pm to midnight. Lasts around 8 to 10 hours on skin with high projection for the first two hours, then settles to medium-high. To project well without giving neighbours a migraine, aim for 5 to 7 sprays. Wearing it projects the image of a man in a long wool coat walking through a misty Alpine forest. Do women like it? Dear friend, unfortunately, no. Most young women associate oakmoss and fir with paternal or authoritative figures. It lacks the ‘cleanliness’ or ‘playful sweetness’ that dominate current trends. If you already own Loewe 7 Anónimo, Bottega Veneta Pour Homme, Amouage Epic Man, Encre Noire L’Extrême, or French Lover by Frédéric Malle, this Lattafa isn’t necessary, even if it remains that affordable Arab option with great value we’ve come to expect.
