A fascinating late 19th-century perfume, relaunched in the 1920s with that fashionable Egyptian theme. There’s almost no information on the ingredients, but my nose screams clove as the heart note, softened by citrus and a hint of incense and spices. I also detect florals, perhaps lilac or carnation. The clove dominates, giving it an intriguing oriental air, right when it wasn’t yet in vogue. Despite everything, it’s not strident; the version I have is a lotion. Another gem from Lubin.
