Pure and realistic violet, fine and simple, elegant. On my skin it doesn’t last at all, though on clothes it would last days. It smells incredibly of movement; I was surprised how it appears on windy days. It seems to be nowhere, but a turn or a movement of the arm and it emerges. It has nothing to envy an EDP.

Beautiful opening, something very special and personal. Powdery with the notes that drive me mad (soft violet, iris, talc, parchment or book leaf…), but… it lasts a mere sigh, like a body mist (and yet perfumes usually last quite a bit on my skin). A pity, considering the exorbitant price. The one I have is the Eau de Toilette; I don’t know if it exists as an Eau de Parfum.
Violets in the hands. If Guerlain draws violet candies with Insolence in a pompous and baroque way, Goutal designs the flower in a more natural, calm, realistic and powdery manner. It is a more discreet violet but deep and subtle at the same time. A vintage, classic, coquettish, fine scent… the pure smell of picking a violet with your hands and using it to make cream or makeup powder.

I’m a huge fan of Annick Goutal for her extreme olfactory realism, which is rare these days. Violette is a sprig of exquisite violets with leaves swaying in the breeze, sweet and full of innocence. It’s not sensual or striking, but natural, simple and romantic, making it irresistible and comfortable. It smells of fresh, playful violets surrounded by foliage, then turns sweet, clean, soapy and talcum-like, with a soft cedar finish. It’s complex despite appearances, as the violet changes constantly, just like in real life. It’s the best violet I’ve tried, perfect for spring and all year round. The trail is strong for the first two hours before settling on the skin for another five or six hours. It’s coquettish, fresh and natural; I love it and it makes me smile.
I know several creations by Annick Goutal and something I always applaud is the extreme realism of her notes; today, amidst so many restrictions, achieving that goal deserves an ovation. La Violette is the bunch of most beautiful violets, full of leaves dancing in the wind and gifting us their fragrance, with drops of sweetness and an aura of innocence. It is not a head-turning perfume nor one with an impactful personality, but its naturalness, simplicity and that romance make it irresistible. It is impossible not to feel identified, comfortable and happy. La Violette is delighted to be just a beautiful and sweet violet. My olfactory spiral begins with a natural, fresh and playful violet surrounded by vegetation; after a couple of minutes it becomes sweet, clean, soapy and powdery, with a soft cedar base. You can wear it all day. Although the composition is not complex, the perfume is never linear; the violet stays in motion, just like the flower throughout the day. It is the best violet I have smelled to date, perfect for spring and appropriate for any occasion. Its trail is moderate to strong for the first two hours, then skin-scent. Longevity of 5 to 6 hours, excellent option. I love having you, you make me smile.
I adore violet florals and this is very good, though I must warn you that it’s extremely cloying (even more so than Violettes de Toulouse).
