Comparing Esoteric to Alien is ridiculous; anyone who has smelled both knows they have nothing in common. It’s a beautiful bottle that evokes an esoteric consultation, but it smells of pure anise with citrus, African orange, and musk. The jasmine is barely noticeable, very faint in the background. It lasts about three hours on the skin with a soft trail that you have to seek out with your nose after half an hour. Unfortunately, it’s discontinued; I spotted it today in a local chemist for €15 for 50ml.
I’ll say it again: yes, especially when it dries down and some time has passed, it bears a striking resemblance to Alien.
I’ve really enjoyed it and it lasts longer than others on my skin. I think it’s more suitable for winter and evening wear, although I wore it this morning and I’m absolutely delighted.
More than the original Alien, this smells like Alien Essence Absolue (2012) thanks to those extra nuances. On my inner arm, I’d struggle to tell which one I’m wearing most of the time; in both, jasmine and aniseed wood are noticeable, despite anise not being listed in AEA (right?). Esoteric keeps it sharper for a moment, but after a few hours, only musk lingers in Esoteric and iris in AEA. I’ve never tried anything from AA and didn’t trust it (prejudices, haha), but it has surprised me hugely; I see it as a great alternative 🙂
