I spotted the rose, oakmoss and patchouli notes, the year of creation and that it was on offer, so I picked it up. Totally unisex, I absolutely love these eighties feminine chypres with that Aramis pour Homme and Versace L’Homme vibe – my favourites… what a magnificent creation this Explosive by Aigner is, elegance and character, a spiced and dark rose… I’ve even received compliments at work from female clients who wouldn’t imagine it’s a perfume created for women… I’ll definitely be buying it again when I run out, of course, just like I do with Gres by Cabochard.
I’m an addict to floral chypres with rose, patchouli and oakmoss. I knew nothing about this veteran brand until I saw the bottle: dark and mysterious, it hooked me immediately. We’re both from 1986 and, upon smelling it, I felt we had a lot in common. The opening is a peppery, honeyed rose that left me speechless with its quality. The lily-of-the-valley root adds earthiness, the geranium blends perfectly with the rose, the oakmoss is well-crafted and the patchouli provides density without being overpowering. The aldehydes and bergamot bring freshness without making it heavy. As it dries down, the sandalwood and vetiver take the floral notes into something more exotic. There are thousands of references like La Perle, L’Arte di Gucci or Soir de Lune, but this eighties gem by Etienne stands at the same level. It’s not a powerhouse in projection, but its quality and longevity on the skin make it well worth it. Simply exquisite.
