  This fragrance is the sweetest of the rose chypres from the 80s and early 90s that I have ever smelled. Let’s go back in time: Diva Ungaro (1983), Clandestine Laroche (1986), Paloma Picasso (1984), Parfum de Peau Montana (1986), Knowing Estee Lauder (1988). All share a distinct and similar style. Some lean towards leather, others towards spices, with varying amounts of civet, but ultimately they share the characteristic 80s DNA, all featuring a strong presence of rose. L’Arte Di Gucci emerged in the early 90s as that 80s trend was fading away, as if it were the last gasp of that generation. We cannot compare it directly, as it had time to improve upon the others and learn from their mistakes. L’Arte Di Gucci achieves the perfect balance, with all notes well-managed and harmonious; it is neither too bitter, nor too dry, nor too strident. It is a powdery, sweet rose chypre at its absolute peak. It carries hints of top-quality grape wine. It is highly narcotic, with the rose being far more prominent than in other floral chypres. A true gem. A genuine work of art.
