Descripción

Envy by Gucci is a green floral fragrance for women. Launched in 1997, this composition was created by perfumer Maurice Roucel. The top notes unfold with bergamot, freesia, pineapple, magnolia and peach; the heart reveals lily of the valley, hyacinth, jasmine, iris, violet and rose; while the base notes settle on oakmoss, jasmine, cedar, musk and sandalwood.

  • I’ve read very favourable comments on other sites, but no matter how hard I try, I don’t like how it smells on me; I smell herbs, not detecting any floral scent or much more. I’ll try it again to see if my opinion changes.

I love this perfume; I use it little but it makes an impression. It’s strong but very personal. It’s worth buying.

This Envy for women was discontinued in Spain about five years ago, as was the Envy for Men by Gucci.

I absolutely love this perfume; I don’t use it often but it makes an impression. It’s strong yet very personal, well worth the purchase.

  • Oops, I think my first review was about something spoiled 🙁 I found it by chance today and it has many qualities I like: personality, trail, fresh, feminine, floral, citrusy, luminous, creamy. The truth is, I never knew this one before. Why? I don’t know, but now I have it 😀 If you see it, don’t hesitate to try it.

It’s a luxurious, sophisticated green floral, all the glamour of the Gucci house (you couldn’t expect less). The floral notes are very unique and elegant; a very exclusive perfume. It doesn’t change its trail much throughout the day, projecting personality and great refinement. The best from Gucci for my taste, thanks.

Green floral? I think ‘crushed floral’ suits it better 🙂 It’s one of the few florals where the hyacinth really stands out and I enjoy it. It’s fine and elegant, now hard to find. As a good work by M. Roucel, it has a particular subtlety and realism; wearing it is like smelling a delicate bouquet that wilts quickly if it’s hot or if you don’t add water. That’s why it’s better in cool (not cold) temperatures. The pineapple note is watery, fresh, and subtle, adding lightness to the base and trail. Besides the hyacinth, lily of the valley and soft moss stand out. I associate it with simple pleasures (good food with white wine, art, or landscapes), light colours, and silver jewellery. It’s understated, not intrusive, perfect for work and business, especially for women. When I wear it, I feel relaxed and focused. The body lotion is good too… it lasts a long time! If you have it, use it with the perfume; then you don’t need to reapply and the scent lasts as if you’d just perfumed yourself.

  • One of my major perfume regrets. I was so determined to own it that one day in a chemist (already knowing it was being discontinued in Spain), I saw it in a gift set, didn’t hesitate, and bought it. Oh, innocent me, what a shock! On my skin, the moss and cedar dominated, leaving it rather masculine. I finished it only to avoid throwing it away and letting it take up space forever, but I won’t miss it.

  • One of my biggest perfume regrets. I was so determined to own it that, upon seeing a gift set in a chemist (already knowing it was being discontinued in Spain), I didn’t hesitate for a second. Oh, innocent me! What a letdown. On my skin, the moss and cedar stood out, leaving it somewhat masculine. I eventually kept it rather than throwing it away, just so it wouldn’t take up space forever, but I don’t miss it.

  • Sophisticated, fresh, and sensual. I fell in love and haven’t been able to find it since :´(. It’s both citrusy and sweet, with woody trails. In my opinion, a real gem.

  • What a pity they’ve discontinued it! It was my signature scent from 1997 to 2007. A unique essence; I don’t understand why it hasn’t returned. The closest thing I found was El Agua de LOEWE Ella. I shall always miss it. Delicate, feminine, unobtrusive, just the right sweet-fresh-floral balance. Distinctive and elegant.

Gucci Envy marked such a beautiful and youthful era that sometimes I think it’s better that it’s discontinued. I still have a small bottle, and when I open the cap, it invites me to a salon of beautiful memories… memories that alternate between my first jobs, first loves, first outings with friends, and first trips. The opening is beautiful, full of life with a citrus touch that is not strident and with a lot of elegance (because that’s always been the Gucci house), it reaches a middle phase where we continue with its impressive green baggage but on top of that, it gifts us a beautiful and virginal bouquet of flowers scattered among fresh grass. When beauty has an iridescent green colour, a green that the sun has given it, a green of a first afternoon in the shade in a park with the first big kisses, the first clear and unbreakable steps when someone holds your hand for the first time, that green of never-blurred gazes, that green will always be: Gucci Envy. The most elegant perfume I’ve ever worn, not by its density but by its pure green strength. Gucci is waking up always in that dream where flowers never wither and where leaves never fall in an autumn… Gucci is passion.

  • What a lovely discovery, such a thing so different from current perfumes. When I smelled this perfume again, that magic happened where I thought: ‘I’ve heard this before’. That part of the brain that seeks to connect a scent with past experiences activated. This time, however, it didn’t find it. Gucci Envy is, as its family indicates, a green floral. There’s no better way to describe it. It’s a soft breeze bringing the scent of little flowers sprinkled over a sea of fresh grass. Its trail and longevity are so good that you can spend hours walking through that idyllic meadow it evokes in your mind. I used it again today and have been walking all this cloudy morning as if it were a sunny day. It conveys so much serenity. Its trail is moderate-to-high and projects very well for hours. Its longevity is over 10 hours on my skin. It’s a perfume that will shine much more in spring than now and will probably be the first I seek when that season blooms again. What a pity this gem is discontinued. Scent 9/10 Longevity 9/10 Trail 9/10 Versatility 7/10 Packaging 6/10 Would I buy it again? Yes, although I don’t think it’s possible.

What luck to have worn Envy all day. It must be a floral way ahead of its time, when opulent chypres and orientals gave way to new trends: 90s perfumes, ozonic, light florals, and super modern. On my skin, lilies covered in peach and pineapple stand out with citrus touches and perhaps some powdery notes. As it dries, it becomes very woody. And to my misfortune, it has brutal fixation. I say misfortune because, as expected, it’s impossible to get it because it’s thoroughly discontinued. A shame. Anyway, Envy is very special: fresh and warm at the same time, clean without pretensions but with a lot of attractive personality, and discreet yet a floral that wraps you in a halo of mystery that enchants. With Envy, Gucci warned of what was to come, my beloved Rush. A pleasure to have come across you, Envy, and a thousand thanks to whoever introduced me to it.

  • The hype for Gucci by Tom Ford between 1995 and 1999 was absolutely insane; even the wealthy dreamed of being a Gucci Spice Girl. Halston women were reimagined through 90s minimalism, and the bottle perfectly captures this. The top notes dominate the entire dry-down on skin, followed by a heavy jasmine that becomes slightly spicy with the musk, blended with cedar and violet. It’s green, with acidic pineapple and a real punch. These were the ‘Gucci bitches by Tom Ford’—the best years of the 90s. I still have a vial of the original 1997 version and now I regret spending it so foolishly at age 20 because the 100ml bottle didn’t fit anywhere.

  • The hype of Tom Ford at Gucci from 1995 to 99 was the bee’s knees; even the rich Spice Girl girl dreamed of being a Gucci by Tom Ford. Halston women adapted to the minimalism of the 90s, and the bottle represents everything. The top notes dominate the entire duration on the skin, then there’s lots of jasmine until the musk makes it a bit spicy, with some cedar and violet. A green perfume with acidic pineapple and a lot of punch. That’s how the ‘Gucci bitches by Tom Ford’ were, the best years of the 90s. I still have a finger of the original from 1997, and with my current sense of smell, I regret spending it so foolishly at 20 because the 100ml bottle didn’t fit anywhere.

  • What a perfume… it makes me want to cry every time I remember it. I’ll never understand it. Along with Miss Dior, they are the perfumes I never managed to decipher as to why they stopped making them. Incredible.

  • It’s a floral fragrance with a green and earthy touch thanks to the patchouli, giving it that vintage 90s vibe. I bought it to match Envy for Men at a good price; although it seems more feminine, underneath it has that typical woody and oakmoss touch of male chypres. I’d define it as a floral-chypre with good trail and longevity, ideal for empowered women who radiate self-confidence.

  • Envy Gucci is green, spicy, floral, and woody. The opening smells of mossy grass and spices; over time, it gains woodiness but retains that spicy green character, basically lily of the valley and hyacinth. In the air it seems more woody and mossy, but up close it’s more floral. My daughter absolutely loves it, though I find it suits mature people better, proving you can’t pigeonhole an age when recommending a scent. It has character, works for both formal and casual wear, but is better for special occasions. It lasted over 10 hours, with a regular trail at first before settling closer to the skin. When it launched in the 90s it didn’t feel modern, though it recalls Gucci’s Memoire d’une Odeur. I got it for my daughter thanks to friend @Boyfrag26 at a perfumerie in his area, but I can’t find it anywhere now.

The opening smells very much of grass, a bit mossy, and over time it becomes more woody without losing that spiced grass note, basically lily of the valley and hyacinth. It gives a sense of character, suitable for formal or casual use, but more for special occasions. It lasted over 10 hours with a regular trail at first that later settled on the skin. Being from the late nineties, it doesn’t feel modern, although it reminds me of Memoire d’une Odeur from the same house. It’s getting harder to find; I got it for my daughter thanks to a friend who picked it up at their perfumerie, but I haven’t seen it anywhere since.

  • It’s the memory of a divine green floral from the nineties. I still cry over not having bought it; I think I had a sample and suffered when it ran out. ’90s green floral and a great perfume’. There should be a word that sums up these three things because they are clearly synonyms.

I’m not an expert on perfumes, but I love blind testing. I bought this without knowing what it was and spent the day trying to remember what it smelled like until I guessed it: it’s identical to Calvin Klein’s Eternity. Really! I checked the notes and they match in almost every way. If you liked this and it’s already discontinued, try the Calvin one; you won’t be disappointed.

I’m bidding farewell to this perfume with my heart in my hands; I have no stock left, and it’s madness that it’s so hard to find. It’s citrusy, green, and woody, ideal for everyday wear: unpretentious but with good longevity. The fruity top notes seemed very subtle to me, but since the musk didn’t overwhelm me as it dried, I wore it in spring and even summer. I hope to get another bottle one day.
