Descripción
Fort Royal by Le Couvent Maison de Parfum is an oriental fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2018, this composition evokes the essence of the island of La Réunion, where the brand originates. The olfactive pyramid unfolds with an opening of La Réunion bergamot and cardamom, giving way to a heart of sambac jasmine and La Réunion rose. The base rests on Madagascar vanilla and patchouli, creating a warm, sensual, and timeless scent.

To me, it’s madness. Perhaps because I adore spiced vanillas, especially with benzoin. Of the three I’ve tried from this house, none have disappointed; in fact, they’ve stolen my heart. This one in particular has the best longevity on skin. It’s addictive; I literally bring my wrist to my nose every time I wear it. It’s a wonderfully elegant spiced vanilla with its own personality. I don’t detect wild berries or anything fruity, juicy, or fresh. Until today, I didn’t realise it reminded me of Eau Duelle by Diptyque, though Fort Royal is more intense, enveloping and full-bodied. I’m not sure if it’s for day or night, as I’m rebellious about occasions: I wear it with a sandwich alongside Oud Royal by Armani, or to formal meetings with White Tea by Elizabeth Arden. Anyway, I see it as versatile. A real gem, hard to find these days at such reasonable prices.

Impressive vanilla with red berries. It reminds me a little of Ani by Nishane (vanilla with ginger). Niche quality at an unbeatable price. It’s quite a showstopper.

A beautiful perfume. Ambered, resinous, and sweet. Difficult to define in terms of notes, but it is very well assembled and constructed. Abundant quality and very natural. It shares similarities with Porto Bello in its construction, with some orange, benzoin, and vanilla. A hint of patchouli is noticeable in the dry-down. Fort Royal is darker. I wish more houses like Le Couvent Maison de Parfum existed; it is a marvel. It is worth more than many perfumes from Creed, Tom Ford, or Parfums de Marly. I am not speaking of tastes, but of the essential oils used. Incredible.

Smells of almonded benzoin with vanilla, without being gourmand, with a dark and resinous touch. It has little sillage; it is restrained, ideal for a date but not for filling open spaces. Fortunately, it is not a sillage monster. I will love it in autumn and winter. A beauty, although its longevity is low.
Interestingly, it smells like nothing the moment I apply it, but almost immediately a beautiful benzoin emerges with a delicious candied orange note—not too sweet, not too citrusy—that dominates the opening. As it settles, it becomes more vanilla-like and slightly smoky, perhaps due to the bitter patchouli base in the dry-down. On my skin, the berries are never noticeable. Beyond these subtle shifts, it’s fairly linear with almost no projection unless layered, lasting around six hours. It’s a unisex oriental fragrance perfect for cold or mild weather; extremely pleasant, a little dark and mysterious. Its low projection makes it ideal for any occasion, day or night, creating a comforting yet sexy bubble. Without being too similar, it reminds me of my beloved, now discontinued Fendi Theorema, and despite being less gourmand and smoky, I could easily adopt it as a substitute. Pleasant: 9/10 Interesting: 5/10 Versatile: 8/10 Original: 5/10
At first, it’s almost scentless, but quickly a delicious candied orange with benzoin emerges, neither too sweet nor citrusy, dominating the opening. As it settles, it becomes more vanilla and smoky, perhaps due to the bitter patchouli base. On my skin, I don’t detect the berries. It is fairly linear with virtually no projection unless over-applied, lasting around six hours. A dark, mysterious unisex oriental for cold or mild weather. With low projection, it’s perfect for any time of day, creating a comforting and sexy bubble. It reminds me of my beloved Fendi Theorema, and although it is less gourmand and smokier, it could serve as a substitute. Pleasant: 9/10 Interesting: 5/10 Versatile: 8/10 Original: 5/10
A quality perfume where benzoin and vanilla stand out, but unfortunately, it lacks both projection and longevity.
A vanilla-scented fragrance with berry notes and an interesting kick. Inspired by the semi-tropical climate of the Canaries, it is elegant, mature, and unisex with great class. The dry-down on skin is fantastic; it’s vegan and features Jean-Claude Ellena as the creator, which adds significant value. As always, test before buying.
Absolutely stunning fragrance, spiced with bay notes and a spicy dry-down. It pays homage to the semi-tropical, spring-like climate of the Atlantic Canaries. Elegant, mature, unisex and incredibly versatile; it works brilliantly on my dry skin. Plus, it’s vegan and directed by Jean-Claude Ellena, so there’s plenty to love. As always, test before you buy.
