A grey day needs light, and I found it here. I’ve been wanting to talk about Massimo Dutti perfumes for ages, especially this line. In the end, I’ve truly appreciated them: they aren’t identical clones, but they smell scandalously like designer or niche fragrances costing three times as much. Yes, their originality is compromised, but their quality and longevity are a solid 10, making you question the armed robbery the big brands pull on us. To start with the conclusion: this Grey Evening smells 80% like Tom Ford’s Black Orchid (which I also own, so I know what I’m talking about). It costs four times less. To put it into perspective, the notes listed on Fragantica aren’t everything it contains; it has six tonnes of rich synthetic ambergris that gives meaning to the proposal and you’ll feel it from start to finish, adding sensuality. At the opening, there’s a dark, rustic ylang-ylang, not very creamy. I don’t detect the valley lily, or it’s so subtle it goes unnoticed. From the hour mark, the green, not overly sweet heart vanilla gradually takes control. It’s a fun but short development; everything passes a bit too quickly and that’s not great. Otherwise, not bad. How does it differ from Black Orchid? Clemency, I’m not joking! Tom Ford’s has more natural ingredients, it’s chocolatey and truffled; this isn’t. Besides, that one is in best mode; this is just ‘almost’. It suits fresh or cold climates, night outings, dinners, or special dates. In summer, it might be a bit overwhelming. I wear it ‘tooó’, so it depends on each person. Not bad, and I’m still blown away to be posting my first review after so long. A 7.5/10 for the lack of originality in the scent but very recommended otherwise. Cheers! If you like my reviews, follow my TikTok channel: Chuliá Parfum Reviews @chulia.my13parfums
