No nonsense: Gucci Nobile is one of the most beautiful fern fragrances ever created, an absolute masterpiece that Gucci unfortunately consigned to oblivion in 2006. I can already see myself with my personal mausoleum, altars for my favourites like Kouros, VC&A, Azzaro and Drakkar Noir, with Nobile having a guaranteed spot. Today the fern genre is almost dead, and I don’t think it’s the IFRA restrictions’ fault; surely chemists can substitute the components, but there’s a lack of real interest. Nowadays everything smells of sugar, leather or oud, but the will to sculpt olfactory landscapes has been lost. It’s all about winning in sex or business, selling outrageously expensive perfumes that are odorous zombies, boring and clones. Nobile is for perfume lovers: a classic fern, fresh, where you distinguish every note, tracing a wonderful woodland, pure nature, dry, crisp, neat, clean, refined and sophisticated, with lavender, rosemary, thyme, citrus, florals and oakmoss. Very masculine yet soft, not dense or baroque like Bogar One Man Show. Pure and classic green, so elegant it doesn’t fit Gucci’s hypersexual image. Projection and longevity are excellent. Unique and essential. The drawback is that it no longer exists. On eBay prices are absurd. Even the discontinued imitation Nobile Royalty by Alexander Da Costa is worth a fortune. If you like classic ferns and haven’t tried it, cross your fingers to find it. And if you do, take the bottle and treasure it with pride.

Gucci Nobile is considered by many one of the most beautiful ferns in the aromatic family and is now discontinued, placing it at one of the highest points of vintage collecting. Like all ferns, the opening shows green in the pure style of its family, with its closeness to legends like Chanel’s Pour Monsieur or Azzaro’s Pour Homme very evident, although its Gucci seal gives it a marked singularity. At ten minutes, Nobile shows one of its properties: a fine and extremely long-lasting attar that leaves the oakmoss to give way to a masculine floral ensemble. Undoubtedly, the resistance, projection and longevity of another century are ingredients to deserve that fame; a perfume that lasts and projects here and on Mars has half the battle won. It shows its fullness at ten minutes, where a floral ensemble takes control of this liquid whose bottle recalls 1930s architecture. The floral is intense and sweet, the image of a metrosexual dandy who spends his money in Albanian casinos and lives a torrid love with an ambassador’s wife. Gucci Nobile is not timeless; its floral-attar essence with a fern spirit is no longer in fashion, but who would judge the lines of a 1968 Maserati Sebring? Who judges its beauty? Undoubtedly, many would buy it over current proposals. It’s gone and won’t return, a fact. It’s an extinct animal of enormous beauty, a lamentable loss.

Well, what a delight to be the first to review this perfume masterpiece! Gucci Nobile could be placed among the fresh scents of the late eighties, very much in the vein of Eternity or Xeryus (yes, I consider it fresh), to cite well-known examples. To be honest, I think it far surpasses them. Within its woody base, citrus notes, tonka, lavender, rosemary, and tobacco stand out. Its markedly Mediterranean aura is worth emphasising. I have the fantasy that every boy of my generation, when playing at being a man, wanted to smell like Gucci Nobile, longing for that to be his intrinsic scent for life. It’s like when you see a relative or famous figure you admire and say: ‘When I grow up, I want to be like X’. It is rather sad that this spectacular fragrance has been discontinued. It was destined to be one of the greatest historical icons among men’s scents. Fragrance: 10/10, Longevity: 9/10, Projection: 8.5/10, Price: 6/10. Discontinued, currently sells for a fortune.

A few weeks ago, in a nearby town, I acquired the box of this very good fragrance: 60 ml eau de toilette and 100 ml bar deodorant, all in excellent condition. The price was quite economical, especially considering the scandalous figures asked online for the EDT alone. Its structure is a pleasant, clean and soothing citrus cut, very Mediterranean, culminating in a soft base of wood and moss. The trail and longevity are moderate, with very acceptable skin fixative. It’s for daytime use, with a summery character. Olfactorily, without having exact similarity, Gucci Nobile belongs to a trend like Armani Eau Pour Homme, Montana Parfum D’Homme or the already mentioned Xeryus by Givenchy. Age range: from 35 years onwards, though not limiting for the young. Fragrance: 10/10, Longevity: 8/10, Projection: 7.5/10, Price: 10/10. Excellent classic, undoubtedly.

It is intense, very fresh and powerful. A woody, complex, and spiced composition. It stands out in elegance, a pleasant and persistent blend with an air of a timeless classic. The top notes are aromatic and tonifying. It gives a sober and refined sensation; it is unique, and if you wear it, almost certainly no one will smell the same. I think houses should conduct a serious survey to see which past aromas people would buy again. It is true that online prices are high, but the main risk is preservation, which may have lost potency. When dried, it reminds me a bit of Enrico Coveri pour homme, another stylish and undervalued fragrance from those years.

Gucci Nobile is the scent of my youth in the nineties. A few days ago I acquired a miniature, and upon opening it, it transported me back to my adolescence, to school days when I was starting music. I am surprised how certain scents move us and take us back in time or recover what is lost. This happens with this perfume and others like Azzaro pour homme, Polo Green, or Lapidus pour homme; all linked to my childhood, the house where I grew up, and the bathroom I shared with my father, where they remained on a shelf, untouched by time, these bottles whose scents mixed with my dearest memories.

I have had it for 25 years, a gift from an aunt I admire, and it is a masterful lotion. It opens fresh and clean, with citrus and lavender that does not smell generic, balancing with rosemary and evolving into a forest moss with roses and carnations. It is a masculine equilibrium that never opens to unisex; it is the example of what a gentleman should wear. Another mistake by the brand to discontinue this work of art; as with everything, it will remain in the olfactory memory of those who enjoyed it. If you come across it, do not hesitate to buy it.

This isn’t a fragrance review, but I want to comment on something. I found a rich fragrance for my taste, until today totally unknown to me, called Nobile Royalty. Researching on English forums, they say it has an enormous resemblance to Gucci Nobile. Therefore, if anyone was a fan of Gucci, in Nobile Royalty they seem to find the closest thing. I’ve only tried the latter and for my taste it’s a true delight, at a quite accessible price. From now on it will be a constant in my fragrances.

It is a jewel that is hard to explain, especially when they still used natural ingredients; it is a true Gucci masterpiece. I do not understand why they took it off the shelves, as it remains in my top 5 collection. After months searching for something similar with time and money, let me share a secret: if you want an aroma inspired by Nobile, grab ESOTERIC de Parfum Vintage; it has first-class ingredients and is another exquisite pearl for the collection.

You know, I found a similar fragrance; I don’t know if it’s my nose, but I think it smells like Herrera by Carolina Herrera. I’ll list Herrera’s ingredients: top with rosemary, lavender, lemon and neroli; heart with cloves, white clover and geranium; base with sandalwood, tobacco and ambergris. To bad luck, bad tongues say they discontinued it in 2017.

A marvel, I don’t understand Gucci, how on earth do they discontinue a work of art?! Polo, YSL, Givenchy, Dior etc. respect their legacies, their classics, and today they are returning with revivals and nostalgia. Gucci should look at eBay and realise they must bring Nobile and Envy back into production!!!!

Masterpiece, it’s like an old car that they made seriously, not in series. It has absolutely everything: quality, projection, longevity. There’s not much to say, INCREDIBLE!! Sadly discontinued and totally UNETHICAL what they are asking nowadays for this fragrance.

I wore it as a child and remember it as super sweet, powerful, with beastly longevity, very intense. It sounded divine; it was pure alchemy. Very much of the 80s, the golden age of artisan perfumery with majestic details. Simply something precious.

I guard what little Gucci Nobile I have left, wishing it would return to the market one day. I agree with everything said in the reviews.

The best fragrance Gucci has ever created… who gave them the idea to discontinue it?

Exquisite, there is nothing to add.
