A collector’s piece from Gucci, the unique 2014 edition that was never reissued. It is a near-niche item, almost impossible to find today, reserved for a very select audience. It currently commands around 300 dollars on the web. The scent is dark and intense, certainly not for everyone, exclusive to those seeking the one-of-a-kind.
Dark, nocturnal, sweet, and with a touch of sexiness. Imagine fruits in a forest. Ideal for dates or winter dinners. I tried it recently to see if it convinced me to buy it, and the short answer is no. It doesn’t fit my style. It aims to be elegant and deep but fails to deliver. It is light years away from the timeless class of Versace Oud Noir, which I inevitably compare it to.
Dark, nocturnal, sweet and sensual, with a hint of sexiness. Fruity aromas in a forest. Ideal for a date or a couple’s dinner. Night, winter. Testing it these days to see if I like it enough to buy it, the brief answer is no. It doesn’t fit my style. It tries to be elegant and deep, but for me, it just doesn’t quite achieve it. Nor is it elegant in the sense of being ‘timeless’. It is light years away from the elegance and class that Versace Oud Noir conveys, which I have inevitably and unconsciously compared it to.
Gucci Oud is perhaps the most extreme synthetic bomb from the brand. That solvent-saturated sensation reminds me of doll hair, as Azurita rightly said. The pink-patchouli accord sinks into a dense, plastic amber, while the dry-down becomes dry and sparse. I’m afraid to spray it near a fire. It is a robust winter fragrance that emits a synthetic polar-type heat. The best part is midway through its life, where it smells of dark, smoky rose, similar to Declaration of a Soir but more subdued. I don’t dislike it, but it is so ‘unwearable’ that it only works in winter and for formal occasions. Adding the price, the proposition drops significantly. It is elegant and potent, but it needs to be applied well in advance if it’s cold. A very considered purchase after a full test.
I was the first to feel that ‘doll hair’ scent I read about with scepticism; it lasted less than two minutes. What I notice is more musk than oud, and the flowers are completely absent. I only smell musk with hot pear juice. Overall, quite ‘bah’. The opening is intense, then it fades, and after about 20 minutes, it remains linear: purportedly woody, hyper-musky, and sweet, with good longevity and moderate sillage.
Launched in 2014, very interesting for combining oud with floral notes. Unisex. Average price: 50ml at 100€ and 75ml at 130€. Scent: 6/10. Sillage: 5/10. Longevity: 9/10.
