Halloween is an oriental floral fragrance for women, created by Max Gavarry and launched in 1997. Its composition begins with top notes of violet, marine notes, banana leaf, and petit grain; the heart reveals a harmony of violet, magnolia, lily of the valley, neroli, and pepper; while the base settles on incense, sandalwood, Madagascar vanilla, and myrrh.

What a wonderful fragrance. It’s very versatile, suitable for any time of day or season, although it stands out more on hot days. It’s simple, but not in a negative way. It reminds me of a wearable scent, like a moisturising cream. It seems easy to like and to wear.

I have migraines and honestly, it’s one of the few fragrances I can’t stand. They gave it to me for my birthday because I had loved a clone of it, but not even joking. That strong violet and black pepper scent sticks in your nose and doesn’t go away until you’ve had a bath. Although you use a little, it has huge projection and longevity, so if you like intense florals, it will suit you well.

I’ve had this perfume for years and it never caught my attention, but something changed in my nose and now I love it. The balance of clean flowers with the exact touch of vanilla at the back enchants me. It’s fresh and clean, but it doesn’t smell like detergent. I’m not a fan of green scents, so this is just right. Regarding its longevity, I think it has decreased compared to my old bottle, or perhaps it’s the maceration. I hope they never discontinue it.

I met it when I was twelve; my cousin from Coyhaique had it and used expensive perfumes, while I only used baby cologne. I always wanted it and it was the first one I bought at sixteen in 2003. I wore it for a year and bought it twice. Today, in 2024, I tried it again and blast! It smells like sweet cucumber. It transports me back to my adolescence and school, but I wouldn’t buy it again today. I think taste depends on age. I could gift it to my friend’s daughter, but for me, zero option. Thanks, Halloween.

  • I was swayed by the notes and reviews to buy it, but now a colleague uses it and I’m not convinced. It has something artificial that isn’t the violet of Natura or Amarige. Does anyone know how to get it off my shelf? I’ve marked it with a cross and I won’t take it off.

  • I wore it in summer and it’s a freshness bomb. It feels delicious and fresh, as if it were lowering your body temperature. Recommended for hot weather; you’ll feel like a fresh leaf in the shade.

  • This is my everyday perfume. I’ve been wearing it for nearly fifteen years and I can’t do without it.

  • I absolutely adore this fragrance. The first time I smelled it, I was four years old, living with my grandparents in Argentina during the 2001 crisis. My aunt was chatting with friends and one of them was wearing this perfume, boasting proudly that it was ‘Halloween’. More than twenty years have passed, and now, as an adult woman, I wear it and it brings back those summers listening to Alejandro Sanz. For me, Halloween is the dream of the adult woman who dreamed of being a child.

At first, it’s a bit of a shock with that sharp note that smells like shampoo, but then it settles into something lovely. Flowers, myrrh and sandalwood blend with a subtle marine touch, leaving a feminine, delicate and super-soothing scent. It reminds me of Jesús del Pozo’s Duende; surely there’s a secret ingredient that hooks you. The name Halloween doesn’t suit it, as it smells more like a forest fairy stepping out of her treehouse. It conveys joy, but above all, peace. The downside is it doesn’t last long, about three hours, so you need to reapply. Ideal for everyday wear. 8.5/10. Warning! It might bring back memories of adolescence or people you no longer wish to see.

  • It is a simple perfume but with something very special; it is one of those fragrances that, in my opinion, are liked more by the male olfactory sense than the female. Many men describe it as adorable, loving or innocent; to me, it simply seems ‘delicate’, without reaching cloying or cheesy. It smells like someone fresh and freshly showered. Some girls consider it somewhat unisex due to the violet and banana leaf notes, but I believe that is precisely what makes it so attractive to men.

  • It is a super versatile perfume; I use it day or night, it is my daily workhorse. On my skin, I feel it powdery with floral notes like white lilies and very pronounced violet, and it lasts quite a while.

After a decade of using it, I decided to buy it again; the excellent price tempted me (here in Argentina they are not as cheap as before). It is a jewel of perfumery. Its nineties scent adapts perfectly to the present and is timeless; luckily it does not feel as much on the street as before. It opens with mysterious violets and marine notes that add freshness but sensuality, without reaching the masculine; the petit grain is slightly noticeable, adding a green touch. In the heart, I feel strong sweetness from the white flowers and pepper; the latter is perceived but soft, giving it potency. The violet is felt all the time; it is the protagonist. As it dries down, the vanilla and spices are very well balanced. It is an unmistakable scent, powdery in just the right measure, fresh yet warm and sweet, mysterious and sensual but also innocent. I see it as ideal all year round for informal occasions. Although they are not the same, Halloween follows the same line as Tommy Girl, 212 by Carolina Herrera, Lolita Lempicka, Yssey Miyake or CK ONE. It is worth noting that for an EDT, it has good longevity.

The mystery of this perfume lies in its name; I do not see the connection with the fragrance… I read it was ‘the scent of a forest fairy’ and it is true. It is fresh, floral, feminine and delicate. It is so nineties that it is pure nostalgia, although I did not use it nor did anyone close to me, it transports me to that turn-of-the-century era. It is floral, fresh, delicate and feminine, ideal for feeling clean and fresh, suits any age and occasion, and you always look presentable. For me, the violet stands out, giving it that powdery and delicate touch, and the white flowers add freshness. The presentation is nice, clean, minimalist and distinctive; seeing a Halloween bottle, you know what perfume it is. The price is good and the performance acceptable. I think it should not be missing from the collection of perfume lovers.

  • I love this perfume; it is super distinctive and beautiful. What I smell most are the violets and marine notes; I am obsessed with them! I use it a lot in spring-summer and at night, it leaves a trail and lasts a couple of hours. When I finish it, I will certainly restock it; it cannot be missing from my life.

  • From my collection, it is one of my favourites! From the first spray it smells sweet, floral, and once it settles on the skin, it becomes a blend of sea, pepper, violets and incense. It is elegant, ideal for evenings or events, and lasts many hours; on my skin it exceeds 12. I love it! Only it is a bit expensive in my country.

  • EnriqueSeguraJ

Citrusy and powdery, in my opinion. I tested it on a new tester and it cost me about $22. Women love it; a copy I bought lacked quality.

  • Magnaroma

I have had it since its launch in 1998 and recently bought a 15 ml vial to remember it. I think it was more potent and long-lasting back then; now I find it more shy, romantic and subtle. Its scent is beautiful and I understand why it remains popular after nearly 30 years, especially the violet and magnolia combination. I would have restocked it, but I won’t because it lacks projection on me.

  • I bought a miniature recently and upon opening it, I noticed the liquid was ochre, giving me the impression it was faulty, although the batch says 2024. I checked online and saw there are both ochre and violet miniatures, so I am not sure what is going on. I am leaving this because the scent with that colour is horrendous: it smells of strong alcohol, a hint of marine notes, and then a very unpleasant sour masculine smell. I adore violets, lily of the valley and magnolia, but I do not sense them here. I will try to test it in a shop, but as it is ochre, it is a resounding NO. At least I bought a miniature and not the large size.

  • It has a very pleasant smell, with a magical touch and a bit decadent, like a fainted nymph. I like it and enjoy it, but it’s not a scent that makes me happy; it’s quite enveloping and long-lasting for the price. Whenever I enter a perfumery, I test it on blotter and on skin but never go ahead and buy it. Something tells me it’s not for me, and although when others smell it it sounds good, I’d prefer if they had brought something else.

  • With spring warmth on the way, I sought something comfortable and jumped at Halloween, which was on offer. The first outing was a mix of delight and confusion: very pronounced marine notes, almost salty like a sea breeze, paired with a green touch (perhaps banana leaf) that gave me a slight nausea and didn’t quite convince me. It isn’t penetrating, but it is disconcerting. Minutes later, the violet enters to add fresh floral softness. I also detect an undeclared note, like aquatic fresh cucumber, ideal for hot afternoons. The heart is my favourite: violet, magnolia and neroli create a creamy, feminine floral scent that makes me feel natural, light and cheerful, very tender. The final dry-down is what drives me wild: incense, sandalwood and vanilla emerge and fascinate me. It is subtle, with a soft trail and good longevity (5-6 hours on skin, longer on clothes). I see it as perfect for day and night in summer and spring, perhaps autumn, though I prefer other scents for that season. I like its evolution; I no longer feel the marine notes so strong after a week, perhaps it is my nose. Although I love it, considering the usual price, I am not sure I will buy it again, but I will enjoy it this season. The purple bottle colour is enchanting. To me, Halloween smells like a forest fairy: ethereal, natural and with a luminous mystery.

  • valentinadevenus

Very fresh and spring-like. The violet scent is very predominant. Good packaging and price, but terrible sillage and longevity.

  • Gaby Iglesias

These are powerful violets, super refreshing thanks to the aquatic and banana leaf notes. Excellent for summer, with brutal longevity and sillage. Its dry-down is talc-like, which I adore. Plus, it’s super affordable and I fully recommend it.

  • It smells clean, like violet soap, freshly bathed. In spring, I don’t leave the house without spraying it. I say spring because, although it weighs me down, my pH is so unpleasant that in summer it’s only noticeable when I apply it, and I feel I’m wasting it. I wish it lasted longer; on my skin it’s 1 to 2 hours, the person nearby or greeting me detects the note, then it becomes intimate or lingers on clothes for 3 to 4 hours. Beyond that, it’s an essential in my collection of fresh scents. I love it and buy it every time a bottle runs out.

  • My summer aquatic; I’ve been using it for 20 years and it’s special forever. A classic that never fails.

  • It has astringent notes, slightly bitter, very similar to Kaiak Océano. I like it because it’s a purely aquatic fragrance.

  • I love wearing it on rainy, fresh days; it smells fantastic and I’ve received countless compliments. It’s aquatic and floral, and the violet notes really stand out.

  • Sofia_Mexlibe_Cuenca

I first bought it because someone gifted it to me; although the packaging didn’t convince me at first, trying it was a wonderful surprise. It’s very light, fresh, marine, and ideal for everyday use, especially on the hot days of spring and summer. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys floral and fresh scents because it’s elegant and delicate, without being dusty or mature. It suits both young people and adults, and it offers excellent value for money. When I repurchased it myself, it cost around 700 Mexican pesos, nothing compared to others. Although it has been on the market for over 20 years, it remains a success and has earned me many compliments.

  • I discovered it at 15 and to this day, at 26, it’s a must in my perfumes or colognes. I love it; it’s not too sweet or heavy. I feel it’s elegant, maritime and I love that; I’m someone who likes nature and the sea. It leaves an incredible trail; I think that’s the most standout feature of Halloween; it’s not sweet and it’s feminine, I’m fascinated by that. I feel I can be mysterious with it.

  • Its notes are exactly what it smells like. It’s a perfume for everyday wear, very lovely and fresh.

  • Srta.reviews

To be honest, it smells genuinely real and evokes memories since it was my signature scent for a while. Upon application, I feel as though I’m in a crystal-clear sea with gentle waves and floating violets; literally, I smell violets with marine notes. It’s perfect for spring, and the best part is that, being an EDT, it lasts and projects remarkably well.

  • AntaresAres

Well, here we are at that time of year when Halloween becomes my daily fragrance. It’s a perfumery classic that has survived with enormous dignity all the silly fashions and still has an excellent quality-price ratio. It has been part of many women’s lives, although according to my nose, a gentleman could also wear it with elegance. Halloween has always seemed to me a mischievous but also disturbing fragrance; innocent and mysterious, like a childhood secret. At first it’s ozonic, fresh and with a rather brazen violet, then it grows and grows. On my skin it mutates into something powdery, resinous and sweet. The tuberose and lily of the valley stand out hugely, turning into a thick mist that suddenly clears to reveal a warm, nocturnal ocean. It wouldn’t be my first choice; it doesn’t suit my personality too much, but it’s a costume I love to wear at this time of year. It’s a lovely vaporous dress filled with sequins and stars, with a decent sillage and adequate longevity. A beautiful creation even if it’s not entirely to my taste, and I hope they never discontinue it.

  • I had it on my perfume shelf that I wanted to try before buying based on a YouTube review and comments here; and just yesterday in a department store a girl was offering to spray several Halloween samples. I didn’t like it. It reminded me a bit of Yves Rocher’s Ming Shu; I found it bitter and it gave me a headache. Perhaps those who really love violets will get on with it. The scent lasted about 4 hours on my arm and then I couldn’t stand it anymore.

  • Jennyfer Selene

It’s totally youthful, fresh and for everyday use. It didn’t have much sillage or longevity, but it smells good.

  • I just want to say that I know you can get it cheap anywhere, but please buy it from reliable sources or retailers. I’ve bought it in various places; the last time I bought it from a retailer in a physical store and it lasted all day, unlike other times when I bought it cheap from random sites. Its scent is very special 💜, timeless and unique.

  • It’s youthful, fresh and suitable for daily wear. I see it well for work, going to uni or meeting friends. For a date, I find it not very seductive. Ideal for spring/summer. It’s a pity the sillage isn’t prominent and on my skin it lasts very little (around 3 hours) for its price. Personally, I don’t notice much of the violet that others emphasise so, so I’ll let it macerate for a while. It was a bargain purchase and I have no regrets, but I wouldn’t pay the full price.

  • I love this perfume. I used to wear it when I was little and never bought it again until today, when I finally acquired it again. It smells exactly as I remembered; I can’t find any similar scent. It’s a sumptuously original and timeless fragrance. Delicious.

  • MariaConstanza

I love this perfume, but its sillage and longevity were much greater back in the late nineties. I have the original and a dupe; the copy is stronger and longer-lasting. It’s a shame they lowered the quality since I didn’t buy the original cheaply.

  • Lizilla Rojas

Smells of violets, lilies and water; I detect no woods or incense (nor do I know what banana leaf is). It’s super youthful, uncomplicated and flirty. It was one of my favourites in my twenties and I’ve broken three or four bottles, but now the last one is gone and I’m not replacing it. People change with time, tastes change and so does the nose. It no longer represents me and its performance is dreadful (perhaps that’s why I broke so many). It’s not worth keeping anymore, although it holds a very special place in my heart and in my Fragrantica wardrobe.

  • vikstrasza

My teenage perfume that I chose myself 💜. It was sponsored in every magazine, advert and even in my favourite show, Física o Química; it was even sold at Mercadona, so it’s a wonder and worth the hype it had. 10/10. It’s for young girls; I wore it to school and on my first dates 💜. I sprayed it recently and it transported me back to those beautiful days between notes and fantasies of perfect love 🤭. It’s fresh, mysterious, pure and simple, yet it hints at a facet you only show to a few. I smell fresh flowers over an aquatic base. It overlaps with Cool Water. Its price makes it accessible for any budget and any girl can enjoy it as God intended. A true work of art, what more could you ask?
