Max Gavarry was born in Grasse, the cradle of modern perfumery, a city that has significantly shaped his life and career. During his childhood, Gavarry grew up surrounded by the world of fragrances, since his father worked as a gardener in Grasse and his grandfather was a grower and distiller of lavender. This early exposure to the world of scents sparked in Gavarry a passion for perfumes, making it clear that becoming a perfumer was his true calling. Gavarry’s talent led him to join International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF), a global leader in the fragrance industry. Throughout his career, he has worked with numerous prestigious brands, including Antonio Puig, Charles Jourdan, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Emanuel Ungaro, Estée Lauder, Grès, Guy Laroche, Halloween, Halston, Jean Desprez, Lalique, Montana, Paloma Picasso, Prada and Yves Rocher. One of Gavarry’s most notable creations is Halloween, a fragrance he imagined as a magical potion capable of beautifying every woman who wears it. Inspired by the interplay between light and shadow, innocence and seduction, Gavarry crafted a sparkling and sexy scent that blends perfectly with the skin of the person wearing it, radiating an irresistible feminine beauty. Gavarry’s approach to creating perfumes is deeply personal, focusing on his emotions and on the brand concept rather than aspiring to commercial success. His passion for fragrances is evident in each of his creations, and he takes immense satisfaction when people connect with his compositions. Gavarry feels honoured and proud that his fragrances touch the hearts of so many women, becoming an integral part of their lives and memories. One of Gavarry’s favourite notes is tuberose (nardo), a fragile flower that he used to create Halloween. Tuberose requires special care when it is hand-harvested, and it is best to harvest it at night to capture its enchanting aroma. In India, this mythical flower is considered erotic and sensual, symbolising the sensuality and the power of attraction embodied by the Halloween woman. Max Gavarry’s life and career have been deeply intertwined with the world of perfumery, thanks to his upbringing in Grasse, the cradle of modern fragrances. His passion for scents and dedication to his craft have led to a remarkable career with IFF, where he has worked with numerous prestigious brands and created iconic fragrances.
