Here Swiss Arabian offers us a very westernised perfume, in line with classic Western tastes, with a slight Chanel Bleu EDP tone. It is monolithic and almost linear, but not boring, as its main thread is accompanied by nuances that avoid monotony. It is a citrus and spiced amber resting on a light bed of woods. It is executed like many 70s perfumes, but with a touch of modernity that reminds us we are not facing a classic of that era, although its fragrance resembles them. It has that masculine and classic style, commonly called barber-shop smell, which is maintained from start to finish, alternating citrus and spicy nuances as the development progresses. The dry-down continues with that barber vibe, but with a greater presence of woods. It is a warm, classic, formal, and elegant aroma, for a mature man of classic cut, nothing youthful. To me, specifically, it hasn’t quite hit the spot as I prefer warm, resinous, and woody orientals, and here the amber is very classic; although I recognise it smells splendid, it just isn’t for me. Curiously, my father never likes my perfumes and yet he says this one smells glorious, haha. The performance is very good, staying on the skin for over 8 hours, with intense projection at first and then moderate. Its use is for fresh or temperate climates, usable in winter, autumn, or spring, and both day and night, without any issues. Ridiculous price for the quality and performance, highly recommended for those who like classic aromas with a modern touch.
We are Motörhead and we play Rock’n’Roll, that’s how their concerts used to start: a wall of sound, two chords, and off we go. Imperial smells like Chernobyl lavender and Fukushima pine, even though those notes aren’t listed on the card. It doesn’t smell like the 80s, but like the 70s. It doesn’t evolve from application until it disappears, but it stays very dignified; in my case, a good six or seven hours without over-applying (4 sprays). A punchy, strong aroma, classic to the bone. Someone might find it ugly, but it is strong and formal.
A lovely proposition that will bring a smile to more than one person who, with patience, tries to understand, imagine, and enjoy its nuances. Upon spraying, you notice the struggle between the classic and the contemporary within Imperial Swiss Arabian. The secret lies in the perfect balance between citrus and spices embracing a bright, woody soul, turning it into something potent and addictive. Its uniqueness arises from recreating an aroma that is both modern and ancient at once, with a rich amber granting an enveloping persistence. If you dare to step out of your comfort zone, you’ll find a special, long-lasting perfume with an exuberant personality that you’ll love to wear every day. And at a laughable price for what it offers.
Totally agree with those calling it a modern classic: it has that vintage vibe that doesn’t suit today’s users of sweet perfumes. Strangely, I don’t detect the notes listed on the card, but rather an old-school herbal scent with superb longevity and trail. Given its ridiculous price, it’s an excellent option and one worth considering. Sample courtesy of Jerry Drake.
