Kyoto Jazz: A Still Garden in Green
Kyoto Jazz by LAYR, introduced in 2023 for women and men, begins with matcha tea, yuzu, pear and bergamot, set amongst green and ozonic notes, cardamom and cocoa.
At its centre, ylang-ylang, violet, orange blossom, lily of the valley, blackcurrant and pineapple are softened with beeswax, before a base of musk, sandalwood, amber and iris with cashmere wood, vanilla, patchouli, moss and labdanum.
The first impression is bright and orderly, matcha lending a gently bitter verdancy. Yuzu and bergamot provide lift, pear brings juiciness, and ozonic notes suggest clear air.
Cardamom adds a refined aromatic flicker, while cocoa behaves more as shading than sweetness. The greenness remains polished rather than sharp.
The heart is a well-kept bouquet: creamy ylang-ylang, powdery violet, luminous orange blossom and fresh lily of the valley. Blackcurrant and pineapple contribute a fruity highlight that keeps the florals buoyant.
Beeswax supplies the mellow join. Smooth, honeyed and faintly animalic, it binds the white and yellow blossoms to the foundation and leaves a cosy, waxed finish on skin.
The base turns woody and ambery, with creamy sandalwood, cashmere wood, powdery iris and amber. Vanilla, patchouli, moss and labdanum lend quiet structure, musk leaving a clean, soft trail.
To appeal to those who favour serene but substantial floral-green unisex fragrances, centred on tea, Japanese citrus and a mellow amber-woods base.
