The fragrance opens with aldehydes, neroli and mint. In the heart there are herbal, woody and amber notes, and in the base a balsamic and woody accord with vanilla, tonka bean and sandalwood. It’s worth mentioning that all these Eau Fraîche editions of Classique and Le Male share the same composition and scent, so the only variation is the artistic packaging design. The Mrs. A and Mr. A graffiti aren’t the only ones; there were Betty Boop and Popeye in 2016, and Wonder Woman and Superman in 2017. Le Male Eau Fraîche André Edition is a men’s fragrance, summery, talcum-powdered and refreshing, with lasting longevity and a heavy sillage. While it smells clean, the soapy or detergent-like aroma due to the aldehydes feels too intense, and that synthetic touch doesn’t appeal to me in a fragrance.
I absolutely love it! It smells incredible in summer, a very pleasant aroma. It’s quite sweet but not cloying, mentholated and vanilla in just the right measure, without excess, and you can also detect sandalwood. It smells very, very well and you don’t even need to spray much to last for hours, because the longevity (at least on my skin) is really good for an eau fraîche. It’s the same scent as Le Male Superman, the very same. When I first saw the bottle, I didn’t like the design at all, but now that I own it, I like it; it’s very fun.
Le Male Eau Fraîche André Edition is the one that has garnered the most compliments from my entire JPG collection. I bought it because it was being cleared out; I told myself I didn’t collect limited editions, but the bottle caught my eye and I gave in—it was the last one in the shop. On first use, it was my first blind buy of a JPG: I wasn’t blown away initially, but I liked it, a very sweet mentholated scent with Le Male’s vanilla well in the background. In short, a mentholated crowd-pleaser. I wore it daily and it was the one that got the most female compliments. I wondered who would have thought an accidental purchase would yield so many praises. As I wore it more, I grew to like it even more, regardless of my initial thoughts. It’s the fresh version of Le Male, very well executed. It’s a favourite of a dear friend. To me, Popeye, Superman and André smell the same. I loved this version of Le Male. A real gem by perfumer Natalie Gracia-Cetto.
