One of the best rose perfumes I have ever smelled, or at least the most realistic and natural of a green rosebush in full bloom. It is a rose wrapped in leaves (the fragrance is very green) with a touch of currant and citrus. The green and currant notes can sometimes be excessive, but they are executed very well. It is unisex, though it leans towards feminine. It is subtle, refined and high quality. Few people wear it, although it seems to be Diptyque’s best seller. Despite being fresh, it has excellent longevity, lasting over eight hours with a moderate trail. Essential only for lovers of the ‘realistic’. It is like smelling a green garden with a great rosebush in spring. Note: this is for the EDT. The EDP is darker and less fresh, like that same garden in autumn with rain and wilting roses. I prefer it less.
Intense green, bordering on bitter; it reminds me more of the rose stem with those currants that give it character. For me, as happens with almost all Diptyque scents, you need to let it settle to reveal the best base notes: amber and musk. It smells wonderful and lasts a very long time. My advice: try it before buying.
Ode to Diptyque’s ‘rose’. Review for the EDP. The opening is fruity-green, fresh, and with a touch of sweetness; the black currants with citrus create this pleasant effect, although they are merely the prelude to the main note: the rose. It feels musky, creamy, powdery, and with a metallic facet, as if oxidised by water and salt. Everything fits; although it seems fragile, it conveys character. The dry-down is pleasant and accentuates that musky-salty effect. Less is more here; that simplicity transforms into elegance and subtlety, making the rose shine alone. Good longevity and moderate projection, ideal for daily use. Rating: 7.5.
Yesterday I used a sample in the store. I applied it at 8 pm, went out to dinner, and people asked what perfume I was wearing. Today I woke up with the scent, excellent longevity and trail (EDP). Today I went to buy it; only the EDT was available but it smells delicious too. The entire Diptyque line, once allowed to settle, changes and leaves those unexpected base notes. Highly recommended 100%. Today I tried Tam Dao, I did not like it at first, but after half an hour it was also delicious.
I tried a sample they gave me in the shop yesterday. I put it on at 8 pm, went out for dinner with friends, and they asked ‘what perfume are you wearing?’. I woke up this morning still smelling it; the fixative and trail are excellent (EDP). I went to buy it today, but only the EDT was available, and it smells delicious too. The entire Diptyque line changes when you let it settle, leaving you with those base notes you didn’t expect. Highly recommended. I tried Tam Dao today; I didn’t like it at first, but after half an hour it was delicious too.
It came into my life by chance and I can no longer live without this Diptyque wonder. Since I also own Rose Amazon by Hermès, I say they are almost sisters. They transport you to a bucolic garden, a pond of lovers, as if you had submerged yourself in a Monet impressionist painting. Simply sensational. As they have said, you will not be able to live any more without it.
This fragrance evokes for me standing in a garden pruning roses full of buds wet with morning dew. It is green, fresh, and of unopened roses, super natural. I do not recommend it to those who do not like rose, because this is pure rose with green and wet touches. A work of art for me.
I did not like it, I’m sorry. It smells like a nursery, like insecticide, like plants. It would make me feel super weird walking down the street smelling like this. It is a geeky perfume, for people seeking scents that clash. I see it as more feminine; if I smelled it on the street, I would think something else. It smells like air freshener, someone cleaning windows or applying insecticide, a porch with plants. Anything but perfume. Fortunately, I take YouTube reviews with a pinch of salt. Miao.
I did not like it, I’m sorry. It smells like a nursery, insecticide, plants; I would find it super strange to go out into the street smelling like this. It is quite a quirky perfume, for people who seek very different and clashing scents, for good or ill. I see it as much more feminine than masculine, and if I smelled it in the street, I would think something else. I don’t know, the smell of an air freshener, someone cleaning windows, someone spraying insecticide, the smell of an entrance hall with plants, anything but a perfume. Fortunately, I take YouTube reviews with a pinch of salt.
I did not like it much, perhaps because I expected a different type of rose. The opening caused me some dislike at first, but after several uses I managed to tolerate it. It evokes dampness, earth, freshly cut green stems, and buds just beginning to open. Some say it smells like pruning roses after rain, and I agree. Does that sound good? The problem is that it is excessively realistic. It fulfils its function: evoking that pruned garden with wet earth, but it becomes an olfactory experience rather than a perfume to enjoy. It is niche, poetic, and original, but I would never buy it.
I did not like it much, perhaps because I expected a different kind of rose. The first time I wore it, the opening caused me some dislike, but after a few uses I managed to tolerate it a bit. This fragrance evokes humidity, earth, freshly cut green stems and rosebuds that are just beginning to open. Some describe it as pruning a rosebush after rain, and I largely agree. Does that sound good, right? The problem is that it is excessively realistic. It achieves its aim: to evoke that garden of freshly pruned roses with damp earth, but in exchange, it becomes more of an olfactory experience than a fragrance to enjoy. It is a niche scent with a very poetic and original proposal, but I personally would never buy it.
Green rose with stem. Green, almost aquatic, with a soapy touch. Upon application, you imagine a young rose bush blooming beside a lake. I agree with the previous reviewer: it is a photo-realistic scent. It is the most mind-blowing thing perfumes can do, transporting us to places and moments. Do not expect many compliments; it feels strange to the olfactory system, it is more of an experience. A different way of treating the rose. Curious, try it before buying.
Green rose with its stem. Green, almost aquatic, with a slight soapy touch. Upon application, it conjures an image of a young rosebush blooming beside a lake. I agree with the previous review that it is a hyper-realistic scent. It is the most evocative thing perfumes can do to transport us to places and moments. Do not expect many compliments; it feels strange to the olfactory system, more of an olfactory experience than a fragrance. A different way of treating rose. Curious, try it before buying.
Totally agree with @vitodito; I think it is a horror. Even the insecticide I have is more pleasant than this. I would not use it even if given as a gift. I love Diptyque, and out of all I have tried, I would never have said this one was from the house. Olfactory experience? What can I tell you, save yourself the trouble of smelling it…

Green roses, fresh and perfectly timed as they bloom. The floral queen in her most earthy, damp incarnation, as if it has just rained in a garden. It smells more to me of fertile soil after a shower than of flowers themselves. The brand describes a basket of roses and black currants by the river, but I see damp earth with currant bushes. I don’t break it down into phases; it is subtly chameleonic. It is hard to define, but I love that dampness for the heat here and it weighs nothing. I disagree with those who say it smells bad or like insecticide, although I understand the connection to geranium. To me, it smells like a porch with plants, and I enjoy it. That is the beauty of perfumery. It lasts between 6 and 9 hours with a short but persistent trail. The bottle and back label are gorgeous and fit the concept perfectly. Do not buy it blindly because you might love or hate it; it is as rare as a green dog, but do try it. Note: this EDT is much brighter and fresher than the EDP, which I find oppressive and dark. Try both.
I have tried several Diptyques and like them for their natural realism. Yesterday I tried Do Son and loved its realistic jasmine and orange blossom. Today I tried this one and also liked that realistic rose with a slight sweet and fruity touch, surely the black currants. Please ignore reviews saying it smells like insecticide; you probably won’t smell it that way. It may seem like a familiar scent, but it is not unpleasant or harsh.
To be honest, I have tried several Diptyque perfumes and I am liking them quite a bit, especially the realistic and natural ones. Yesterday I tried Do Son and also found its realism of orange blossom, jasmine and neroli excellent. Today I am trying this one, L’Ombre Dans l’Eau, and I have also liked that realistic rose with a very light sweet and fruity touch; I am sure it is the currant notes. Please do not take into account the reviews that say it smells like insecticide; probably you will not smell that. It might seem like a familiar scent to something you have encountered before, but it is not unpleasant or harsh.
