Luna by Nina Ricci is an oriental vanilla fragrance for women. Launched in 2016, this composition was created by Christophe Raynaud and Marie Salamagne. The top notes reveal wild berries, orange blossom, tangerine and lime; the heart unfolds a harmony of caramel, immortelle, pear and jasmine; while the base notes settle into Madagascar vanilla, licorice, sandalwood and white musk.

A perfume that makes you want to eat it! There’s no denying its inspiration from LVEB or Flowerbomb, but what reminded me most was Pink Sugar Sparks; one could say the latter is its low-cost clone. Luna is a gourmand that can be too cloying for some, but with moderate projection, it’s easy to wear, although its longevity is also medium. And as a bonus, it comes in a little bottle where good taste resides in simplicity.

  • I tried it, but for my taste, it’s too cloying; I’d prefer Mademoiselle or the classic Nina a thousand times over.

  • Luna transports me to a magical forest made of pure caramel. It’s delicious, a sweet so strong and serious as cotton candy. It’s truly exquisite and has me hooked on its pure sweetness.

As a toilette, its projection and longevity are within expected range: about two hours on skin and six on clothes, though barely any remains by the next day. I see it as an autumn and winter scent due to its intensity, though I wouldn’t rule it out for summer outings. It’s brilliant for daily wear if you enjoy sweet fragrances. Regarding age, it suits anyone; for instance, it would be perfect for Phoebe from Friends, an adult with a childlike personality. It opens with citrus-fruit notes featuring red fruits, then the citrus fades to reveal red fruits with caramel, followed by sandalwood and licorice, which dominates. I’d define it as a great red fruit caramel with pieces of licorice over sandalwood. I recommend it to those who like sweet scents with woody notes and a touch of fruit.

  • Carlamaco

Exquisite sweetness, sweet yet not cloying; it blends into the skin with caramel notes and a sweet citrus finish. Ideal for autumn and winter, day or night, whenever you wish…

Sweet and rich without being overpowering; it smells like Flowerbomb Bloom by V&R.

  • LUNA by Nina Ricci, DELICIOUS! The romance of a woman gazing at the moon was the inspiration behind this splendid and relatively new fragrance, launched in 2016. It begins with wild berries, orange blossom, lime, and juicy tangerine, leading to a heart of caramel, jasmine, pear, and that mysterious, exquisite immortelle flower. I felt transported to a garden with a sweet breeze. I was surprised by its dry-down: it seemed simple but unexpectedly complex, featuring sandalwood, Madagascar vanilla, white musk, and licorice, immersing me in a night of wooden candies, a charming blend. It’s a beautiful and tender perfume with a moderate trail, lasting 6 hours on my skin. I like it for nights any season, for staying at home or casual outings with friends and family, comfortable enough for the theatre or dinner. This delicious juice comes in a lovely blue bottle evoking the sky, inspired by the joyful, feminine, romantic, and enigmatic woman. It stays in my collection! 💙

Luna, I love it! It’s very youthful, love it! It’s a sweet little caramel with red berries and a slight tang from the lime. I’d definitely buy it again! It’s my favourite of the three. This one lasts longer than Nina’s and I won’t even talk about the horrific thing by Bella.

  • clau cheirosa

Perhaps it’s my ph, but for me, a bitter note from the licorice and sandalwood blend stands out from the start; I can’t handle it. I have to wait an hour before feeling any caramel, and it doesn’t appeal to me.

  • I’d say it’s the light version of Poison Girl, less cloying, a bit fresher, with an apple touch. I like it, but I bought it because people said the citrus notes would stand out, yet they don’t on me at all; in fact, I detect no citrus. It lasts very little and the trail is quite faint.

  • FlordeLis

I see Luna as more suitable for winter or evening wear as it can be overwhelming. I’m not a fan of sweet perfumes, but this doesn’t bother me. It’s slightly sweet without being cloying. Personally, I don’t find it special. It’s a vanilla oriental that smells like powdered candies with a subtle sandalwood, vanilla, and licorice.

  • I love it! It reminds me of Lolita Land due to that super sweet opening, but the sweetness fades over time, leaving a very pleasant aroma. I want it!

  • geomeun.apyeon

It’s often compared to Black Opium Nuit Blanche, featuring that white floral base of heliotrope and carnation that gives it a more mature feel. It opens with a playful note mix and settles on immortelle, followed by hints of coconut or biscuit that remind me of Mia Mine. Then come purple notes and a gourmand base, but not a cute bonbon style; rather, it’s formal and mature, which my nose appreciates since my collection consists of dessert-like scents. It contains tonka bean and toasted almond, smelling like creamy coffee with milk but infused with tonka. I’d buy it solely to recall Nuit Blanche; among this floral collection, it’s currently my favourite. I’ll keep wearing it… <33 Edit: I tried another similar one, Girl of Now, and stuck with it because it has fewer florals but retains that purple note.

  • It brings me memories of the now-discontinued L by Lolita Lempicka. It’s caramel, with more fruit, more caramel, and sugared cotton sweets. Exquisitely gourmand.

  • I absolutely loved it! My dad gifted it to me because my cat is named Luna, and he nailed it by giving me something sweet but not overpowering. It starts citrusy, but then a potent sweetness emerges that drives me wild, especially that vanilla note which is my favourite part. Afterwards, the woods add depth and a sensual vibe, perfect for autumn or evening wear. The sweetness keeps it youthful without being childish. My only gripe is that it doesn’t last long and I’d prefer more projection, but for those who adore vanilla and oriental scents, it’s a 10. It has become one of my go-to favourites that never fail.

  • Elizabethshelby

The opening is strong and acidic, but then it settles on the skin: the caramel becomes warm and spiced by the licorice, with sandalwood at the base. It’s sweet and youthful, but not childish; it feels mysterious and magical. What a delight! The bottle is gorgeous. Ideal for the cold, it wraps and warms you. Edit: I’m still testing it, sometimes it smells of wet wild berries with something citrusy. I don’t know if it’s the periwinkle or the licorice; sometimes it has a masculine touch that disappears when the caramel reigns.

  • Beautiful for a special night. Although the notes are very similar to Donna Karán Nèctar Love, this one is for the night and the DKNL for the day. On my skin it lasts several hours and is very lovely.

  • What can I say about Luna? I’ve never been a fan of Nina Ricci, but this is interesting. At first it smells citrusy and oxidised, but then it becomes pleasant. It’s rich, sweet and soft, with an air of La Vie Est Belle but less potent. It’s not my favourite, but I like to use it from time to time; it usually pleases others and puts me in a good mood. I’d buy it again only if it’s on offer.

  • tacmakeup

It smells very similar to La Vie Est Belle, but without its longevity and sillage. I think it’s a more economical option as LEB is very saturated. I also sensed it similar to Black Opium.

  • Luna here, Luna there: a little apple bathed in celestial light, sweet and subtle. An orange moon over a lake of oranges, caramel and sandalwood. A white moon of orange blossom, jasmine, pear and musk over a field of vanillas. A juice of celestial blue light in a loving fragrance to share.

  • They gave it to me. It’s pleasant, but I wouldn’t buy it. I don’t sense the vanilla; for me, it’s neither gourmand nor sweet. On my skin it feels powdery and soft, without lasting long. So far, I haven’t got on well with this brand.

  • Caramelised wild berries in liquid form. At first, those fruits give a sharp acidic touch that later turns into pure caramel, zero cloying and very rich. I love it, especially for the longevity: on my skin it lasted about 8 hours.

  • I received it as a gift, but it’s not my style. On skin and paper, it smells like stale orange with kitchen vanilla. It strikes me as teenage; I prefer Boum Candy Land, which is cheaper, lasts just as long, and I like it more. I’ll keep Luna to gift it on, I’m sorry to see it go to waste.

  • debcalvella

I was gifted this, but I wouldn’t buy it again. It smells sweet yet very powdery; I don’t detect any caramel. It sounds more like what a pharmacy smells like.

  • Frambuesas

Finally, I have found a gourmand that is not suffocating! Although I love a perfume with a delicious aroma, gourmands tend to be suffocating and cloying in the infernal heat of the tropical island where I live. Luna is a soft gourmand. It is delicious and I do not feel the urge to suffocate myself a minute after applying it. My nose detects the caramel, the liquorice, the vanilla and the sweet-and-sour aroma of wild berries. Luna is certainly seductive with an ‘adult’ touch. Nothing like the shrill sweetness of Nina and Bella is found in Luna. Sweet but not too sweet, Luna is an option suitable for those who desire a mono and gourmand perfume to use during hot seasons.

  • Pame.Betsabe

This is my first Nina Ricci fragrance. After barely testing it, I detected a little lime and orange with a liquorish touch. After a few minutes, its sweet notes began to emerge: very pleasant caramel and liquorice. The downside for me is its sillage and longevity, which are very poor. It does not last more than an hour and it does not stay on clothes. I am a fan of gourmand fragrances and I do not think this is one; it lacks potency. It is a wearable fragrance, where I would use it in cold periods. It was a blind purchase; although I like it, I would like it to have better performance. 😘🇦🇷

I was gifted this perfume and the scent is very rich, but I find it very cloying. I have sensitive and reactive skin, and every time I used it, my face irritated due to the fragrance. Nevertheless, I have had sweeter perfumes, but one must take into account before buying it if you have skin prone to rosacea or reactive.

What a poetic name and what audacity to use it on such a modern and simple fragrance. I am not saying it is bad or ugly, just that they have given it a name too weighty for what it is. The moon is the natural satellite closest to Earth and some theorise it formed about four and a half billion years ago after the collision of a proto-planet called Theia. For me, Luna does not reflect that nor the mysticism it has represented for humanity over millennia. Nor let us speak of the relationship with death that the Egyptians and Japanese attributed to it, or with Greek women, or Roman witchcraft; those are just examples of Eurasian peoples of which we have record. None of that appears in this perfume. The aroma opens, for only a few seconds, with a terribly oxidised citrus scent, but soon it turns into an explosion of well-executed wild berries (natural, nothing shrill) that give it a cold, almost frozen character, along with a soft lime and orange. In the heart, one can detect a sugared orange blossom, similar to that in the opening of Black Opium but less intense, and a withered flower left to die in a vase full of water. Jasmine, periwinkle and caramel also make an appearance, giving it an almost gourmand touch. I like the base very much; reading the notes it seems generic, but it turns out to be warm and relaxing, moving away from clunky patchoulis to replace them with a creamy, tranquil sandalwood that gives it strength and prevents the caramel from becoming sticky. I highlight the use of periwinkle, which makes Luna different within gourmand fragrances, just as those frozen berries with caramel, sandalwood and vanilla, very welcoming notes. All this creates an interesting contrast with other fragrances. For that reason, and despite similarities to cloying perfumes for teenagers or young adults who want to smell like a bakery, and considering its price, I recommend it as a gift or first perfume for a young girl (or an older woman, I am no one to dictate age). It is better than using Luna than LVEB or Black Opium, which are already very overused and bore me as much as ignoring the steps of drunk English or German men at three in the morning in the corridor or the moans and thumping of the bedroom couple next door in a hotel. Presentation: 9/10 (I like the blue apple bottle; in fact, I bought it because it reminded me of the book The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, anyone who has read it will understand the reason, though I will warn that upon opening the box I found a broken atomiser leaf; in the end, the perfumery made the change without problem). Longevity: 6/10 (it lasts about four or five hours, the same as several people who have it, although it is eau de toilette). Sillage: 6/10 (close to the user without being intimate or imperceptible). Originality: 5/10 (the wild berries and periwinkle make it different). Versatility: 7/10 (I would not use it in hot climates, but the cold touch of the berries allows it not to be exclusive to cold weather). Season: autumn or winter for me, but if it is someone’s signature fragrance, I don’t think they would have to leave it for spring or summer thanks to the berries, periwinkle, lime and orange. Personal taste: 6/10. Would I buy again?: I don’t think so, it didn’t captivate me enough to spend my money on it; although if it were gifted to me, I would happily use it again.

  • VioletRoses

I was gifted it when I turned 20; I am now 26 and the bottle is still almost full, as I have hardly used it because it smells very dusty and mature. I don’t think it is ugly, but it is very heavy and only for very specific occasions. I get the impression it is for an older woman at a gala event, so unless I want to feel very elegant and sophisticated, à la ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, I don’t use it. I don’t know why they say it smells of caramel and fruit; I don’t smell anything like that. I only detect a hint of flowers after half an hour, but what predominates is wood and musk. I think it adheres better to clothes than skin. A very serious scent for my taste, but perfect for those seeking something elegant, refined and mature.

  • I was gifted it and after barely testing it, I thought it wasn’t for me, as I prefer sharper aromas, but I grew to like it. As soon as you put it on, it’s like a slap, difficult to describe; it smells cold, strong and dark. After a while, it settles and vanilla emerges, with a lot of sweet caramel scent. Ideal for those who prefer well-sweet perfumes that aren’t floral. For my part, I will use it again another winter, as I believe it is more of that season.

  • Jess Jiménez

Luna, it is blue and called Luna, which is why I bought it. It is sweet and liquorish, sometimes with a powdery touch. It is nocturnal, sober and slightly dark, with a lot of personality without being overwhelming. The downside is that, to my taste, it doesn’t last long, at most four hours. EDIT: A few days ago I used it and oh surprise! It lasted all day. What a wonder, from morning until night; when I bathed, I was enveloped in that vapour with scents of orange blossom, caramel and liquorice, how enchanting. Luna is feminine and elegant, a delight.

  • At first, it smells citrusy and sweet, more sophisticated than its price suggests. I like the blend of citrus with orange blossom and jasmine; I wore it during the day and it filled the room with a very potent trail. Others found it too patchouli-heavy. I didn’t notice it at first, but later I realised that note was quite sharp and it stopped pleasing me. Even with a small amount, I felt a stinging sensation in my nose.

  • I bought a sample with another perfume and, to be honest, it has never really worked for me. It smells heavy and synthetic, I think it would only suit teenagers. If you aren’t very particular, you might like it on its own, but it’s simply not my style.
