  To start, I’m not sure who approves perfume notes, because this is a championship-level rose. It bears an enormous resemblance to Al Haramain Madinah, like its Intense version. The difference is that Maze is intensified to the nth degree; Madinah is already intense, but Maze is sharper. The opening is more citrusy, with a lovely touch of absinthe that Madinah lacks. From there, the scent is almost identical, except at the end Maze has a very subtle caramelised sweetness from tonka bean and praline, which isn’t noticeable in Madinah. Overall, it’s the same scent but much stronger: an Arab rose embraced by woods, musk, flowers and resins, with elegant execution. It lasted over 10 hours on my skin, with a strong trail initially and then moderate; it’s a perfume designed to make an impression. Given its intensity, I see it as better suited to cold or mild climates, not heat; to my taste it’s more of a night fragrance, though it can be worn by day with moderation in a crisp winter or autumn day. The recommendation is clear: if you like roses, try it. If you like it, you have two options depending on your preferences: if you want something strong and intense, go for Maze; if you prefer something less intense but equally long-lasting, choose Madinah.
