Louis XV de Oeillet: Begins with sweet mandarin citrus and a touch of pepper. Quickly it turns floral with carnation, iris and soft rose over a clove base (no orchid). Drying down reveals talc, musk and a whisper of honey; no rice or wood. Projects for 1–2 hours and lingers on skin for 5–6. Though it shares genes with its sister Royal Oeillet, this version’s floral-clove balance and powdery-honey base are excellent, far superior to the other. It glows best in the heat, where the flowers and clove truly stand out.
Louis XV: Opens with a sweet citrus burst of mandarin and a hint of pepper, then blooms into soft carnation, iris and rose over a clove base (no orchid). As it dries, talc, musk and a thread of honey emerge; no wood or rice notes. Longevity is 1–2 hours with a trail of 5–6. While it shares DNA with Royal Oeillet, here the floral-clove balance and the powdery-honey base work better, setting it apart from its sister. It shines more in warmth, where the flowers and clove really come alive.
Oriza Legrand fragrances are a historical tribute from a house with roots dating back to 1720. Oeillet Louis XV, the carnation of Louis XV, is no exception. It is brilliantly built around a carnation with a powdery base and echoes of rose water. If the carnation had a colour, it would be pink. One can almost imagine Louis XV using scented makeup powder infused with this. The perfume is tender and innocent, with a solar touch, perhaps due to the mandarin. However, be aware that the carnation can be very masculine and carnal, and here it oscillates between the tender and that lustful facet that a well-crafted flower can bring. There is also a sweetness reminiscent of violet sweets, an undeclared but present flower. It is a spring perfume with moderate projection, nothing dense, that accompanies you all day.
