The Urbieta Perfumery in San Sebastián is a classic and one of the best in the city. Ondarea is their own brand; here they collaborated with Santi Burgas or Rodrigo Flores-Roux, who created it. I know it well; it’s a staple in my home. Ondarea means ‘Legacy’ in Basque and fits the scent perfectly. It has the DNA of classic colognes but with a green twist that modernises it and gives excellent longevity. The fruity notes make it creamy and sweet without masking the citrus and refreshing top. Ideal for summer, semi-formal or formal wear, featuring top-quality ingredients and a naturalness that shows Flores-Roux’s care, the same man who updated Fougère Royal. Like the city, it’s elegant and chic, without being loud, with great savoir-faire. National perfumery that doesn’t envy the Italian or French. Simple yet elegant packaging with designer pricing and niche quality. Au revoir!

I haven’t yet rated the trail and longevity, but I’ll keep testing it. I see it as suitable for spring, summer, and autumn. It works for any time of day or with a suit (though it could also be a wardrobe staple or everyday scent). I consider it totally unisex; on a woman, it adds elegance and distinction. Proof that quality perfumes are made in this country.
