The opening is a caramelised and sticky lemon (but rich) that disappears quickly leaving a jasmine identical to Chance. It reminded me a lot of that fragrance, like an ultra-light version. The trail is non-existent and the duration is absurd for the price. I would almost prefer any Álvarez Gómez or 4711. I would not pay more than £15 for something like this.

The first Chanel that does not become cloying on my skin. On me, it is a scent that does not change. What I perceive is basil, green and pungent notes: fresh and cheerful, although linear. I did not find it similar to Chance, because this one has a sweet point (even the Eau Fraiche is like that, to make it ‘feminine’); whereas Paris-Deauville is completely green, even ozonic. Lasts 5-8 hours, with soft to moderate projection. Edit: I acquired Declaration d’Un Soir blind and they are very similar! Only that Deauville is more unisex, because the herbal side, especially the basil, develops more. Declaration becomes more spicy, and obviously highlights the rose, although both share that tipsy and fresh air.

The first Chanel that does not become cloying on my skin. It smells the same from the start: basil, green and pungent notes, fresh and cheerful although linear. What I notice most is the patchouli, which reminds me of the Chanel universe, especially Coco Mademoiselle, but more unisex and less sweet. Given the name ‘Les Eaux’, I suppose it is due to the concentration; it looks like an EDC and its trail is very timid. Normally I judge fragrances by their trail waving the paper at 10, 30 and 50 cm. Here, at 30 cm, after 40 minutes it is almost imperceptible. I cannot imagine the performance on skin. The chemical quality is good, but conceptually it feels very familiar. Sophisticated yet disappointing due to the performance. I do not understand the point of these ‘exclusive’ fragrances that last 30 minutes and then are skin scent. Are they for collectors? The concept does not seem evocative enough to buy them as cosmetics. The scent is good, but the performance is poor.

  • Deauville unites two worlds to create something precious: classic Chypre notes reminiscent of the 70s Eau Sauvage, mixed with luminous greens from Nina Ricci and the modern touch of Polge. It is an timeless scent, not for mass tastes, but one that distils class and refinement, ideal for fresh springs and summers. In my opinion, although unisex, it smells very masculine. Its performance is medium, resembling a Cologne with a bit more bite. It never abandons you and projects its brilliance from discretion. A jewel in my Chanel collection.

  • Chanel Deauville is two worlds coming together to create this beauty. On one hand, we have classic Chypre impressions reminiscent of those early Eau Sauvage from the 70s. Along with the luminous greens of Nina Ricci, to this the touch of modernity from Chanel and the genius of Polge create something completely new and timeless! This last part already tells us where this fragrance is heading… It is not for young and mass tastes; this is a scent that distils immense class and refinement and is perfect for spring and summer along with its fresh nights… here pure class and distinction, and although, in my perception unisex, it results in being very masculine. Performance is medium as it is not an EDT and although the brand does not specify it either, it seems like a Cologne with slightly superior performance to the average. That said. The fragrance never abandons you and from discretion projects its beautiful and luminous scent. A jewel in my taste of the Chanel house.

Tested on blotting paper, it smells of fresh, soft flowers that don’t overwhelm me as often happens. Hours later, the citrus notes have vanished, although in the Riviera version I could detect them all the time. I love that they are releasing these unisex lines; they are tiring of those gender stereotypes, and sometimes I am surprised when a fragrance is deemed masculine or feminine depending on who wears it, as in this case where it feels feminine to me. For now, it is my favourite of the Chanel Eaux. I have visited Deauville, that seaside town of the Parisian high society where Coco opened her boutique. The fragrance is luminous, fresh and soft, very chic. It conveys that free-spirited modernity of Chanel. I still need to test it on skin to be sure 😄

  • Tested on blotting paper, what I notice are soft fresh flowers that do not overwhelm me as often occurs. Hours have passed and perhaps for that reason the citrus notes do not remain. In Paris – Riviera however I noticed them in a predominant way even after hours. I love that they are releasing these unisex lines because truly they are tiring of those stereotypes about the feminine and masculine, and many times I am reading reviews in which I am surprised qualifying a fragrance as masculine when I found it feminine and vice versa, as in this case where for me it is feminine; perhaps because it suited me. And even though that impression is obviously based on references of the world in which we live so it is really rare that they differ so much. For now this fragrance is my favourite of the Chanel Eaux. I have not travelled much but coincidentally I did visit Deauville on one occasion. A traditional seaside town historically a summer resort of the Parisian high society in which Coco Chanel opened a boutique, offering novel but elegant clothing to this public, and which had great importance in the history of Chanel. I find this fragrance very luminous, fresh but in a soft way, very chic. It conveys the free and unpretentious modernity of Chanel. I have to test it on skin to know if I really like it 😄
