The reformulated Diorella has left me speechless. I expected floral, but instead I found a nearly fougère chypre, very masculine and old-school. The opening is harsh, bitter, and wild, nothing like the sweet perfumes of nowadays. It reminds me of Youth Dew and the old Opium. Notes of bergamot, green lemon, wild honeysuckle, and lots of moss. It doesn’t smell of flowers or fruit, but of a liberated woman from the seventies, in a leather jacket with rock music. The dry down is dark, gloomy, and based on leather and vetiver. It’s a difficult scent for current trends, perfect for those addicted to dry fragrances. Dior has performed a miracle by preserving it.
Diorella is a jewel trapped in time. I stumbled upon it yesterday in a shop with outrageous prices, and when I tried the original, unretouched by Hollywood, I was absolutely blown away. I held the bottle up to a lady and told her it smelled musty, but she looked at me like I was daft because she was utterly fascinated. The owner confirmed it’s a miracle, brutally original, woodsy, and even rotten for those who love moss. What a difference from what they sell today; it’s a work of art that has sadly died with the times.
Diorella is my favourite of the green notes: complex, well-crafted, and original thanks to the melon and basil. The moss and vetiver give it character, and the peach blends so well with the citrus that you can’t tell which is leading. The honeysuckle is there, but keeping quiet. It’s a masterpiece, the feminine counterpart to Eau Sauvage, with a sweetness and originality that make it unique.
If Le Parfum de Therese is Roudniska’s best fruity chypre, Diorella is their best floral chypre (classic version). Bright, green, and citrusy opening with juicy melon. In the heart, honeysuckle reigns like a giant light accompanied by cyclamen, jasmine, carnation, and rose, all with peach and that mossy base that gives it radiance. The oakmoss dry down is sublime, the vetiver like smoke, and the patchouli earthy. Everything works perfectly, voluptuous, elegant, and sophisticated. Roudniska does magic with chypres. Rating: 9.1.
Wonderful. It combines the floral elegance of Eau Sauvage with the fertile, fruity femininity of Diorella.
I tried the new formulation and I didn’t like it at all. Although I adore Dior, these new versions don’t convince me. On my skin, it smells very masculine; the vetiver sticks like a leech and you can’t detect the patchouli or the fruits. The vetiver has taken over everything.
Diorella Cancion: Eloise / Barry Ryan. One of Roudniska’s masterpieces, simple and direct. It’s basically Eau Sauvage with a floral and fruity touch at the start that makes it feminine (or unisex, in my opinion). Roudniska perfumes from that era share a similar structure. Dior reformulated it recently, but I’ve only tried the vintage. Highly recommended.
