If NZ pours its masterpieces ‘into pretty bottles,’ they may be ‘happy,’ but we buyers will have to pay more and pay for the ‘bottle’ and, perhaps, not a little. I disagree. I am quite satisfied with their modestly shaped and, by the way, very recognisable bottles. The main thing for me is that they don’t pour anything into them.
Who amongst us has not known unrequited love? I had one at secondary school. The chemistry was not mutual. That’s why I’ve spent my life playing with perfume experiments. I have them growing, ageing, maturing. Blossom! My sister gave me ‘Golden Patchouli’ in the early nineties, knowing my fondness for this noble plant in perfumes. Well, ‘New Dawn’ was not amongst my favourites, so somehow the gift was forgotten. A 15-18-year-old matériel is not this. It is almost vintage. I applied golden patchouli and it fell from grace. The beauty is inexpressible, words cannot describe it, 33 letters and signs of the alphabet cannot describe its beauty. I think 2,000 Chinese characters would suffice. It is smoky and resinous, rounded and delicate, airy and soft, floral and amber. But it is also fluffy, silky, caressing and gets lost in the distance… into a dream… …. To paradise… Never retro! But that is no longer made today. And if you remember Süskind’s famous film ‘Perfumer,’ my baby ‘Patchouli d’OR’ could be that heavenly fragrance of love. It is lovely!! inimitable, inimitable….
Today I wore it to the office. It is a great fragrance (especially for the price). It doesn’t smell of anything. As previous comments say, it is a kind of floral. Patchouli is not the dominant note and only adds vibration to the fragrance. Projection and longevity are good. It makes you present and noticeable, but it is not offensive. I like it very much.
NZ has many controversial fragrances. But this one is certainly worthy of the highest praise… Sweet, languid, luxurious, with character…. Of course, if your perfume interests are limited to berry flowers, there is nothing to catch here. This perfume demands a lot. You have to know how to wear it and have a sense of proportion and occasion. BECAUSE IT IS MAGNIFICENT! It is a great perfume for a great woman. You can definitely feel the master’s touch. Master Kurkdjan himself put his hand to this perfume. Here is an excerpt from his 2011 interview: Journalist: ‘I heard you participated in developing the Patchouli d’Or perfume for New Dawn. Are they lying?’ Francis Kurkdjian: ‘No, it’s true. It is a respected brand, with a long history, so when its owner asked me to think about a fragrance 3-4 years ago, I suggested some formulae. I like that a lot. You have to listen and wait to see how and when they develop.’

It’s not discontinued. You have to go to the brand shop. I tried it there today) Well, of all the notes listed above I could only detect patchouli, of course, and amber. Also, I smelt very different components. For example, it opened with a very strong sweet vanilla, then came bitter almond, really bitter almond that smothered the other notes for quite a while. Then it suddenly turned soapy in a very cheap way. When it finally settled, I could detect a sort of mushroom smell. Very lovely, by the way. Then I smelt something I took for freesia, but actually when I read the notes quoted above, I realised I was mistaken: it was heliotrope. The perfume is nice for dressing-table games. It’s sensual, sweet, intoxicating. Lovely for our climate here in Moscow. And the similarity to Poeme by Lancome is striking. Worth it in any case.
