What luck to be the first to touch this beauty! If you’ve come here for TOM FORD, you already know their fragrances are very particular: they spark love or hate depending on the nose. This is no exception. If you’ve tried ROSE PRICK, you have an idea of how ROSE DE CHINE is. It launched alongside Rose de Russie and Rose D’Amalfi in a limited Valentine’s Day 2022 trilogy as the ‘children’ of ROSE PRICK. I haven’t found the other two yet, but I’ve read their notes; all three have rose as the protagonist with different personalities. In Rose de Chine, there’s an opulent, spicy, mysterious, and very ambered rose. Ideal for cold climates or nights where you want to stand out. The note reigns throughout the evolution, being predominant. Peony appears at the start, but the rose remains, overshadowing the rest. On my skin, it’s a very spicy rose, with lots of pepper from the start to the finish; the spiciness is always latent. It’s a fragrance with great personality, dark and opulent, not suitable for every nose. I don’t recommend buying blind.

It hasn’t won my heart. My husband gifted it to me for my birthday, and I only wear it because he asks for it. I can’t tell him it doesn’t suit me because it would break his heart; he adores it, which is why he gave it to me. However, I simply can’t stand that blend of rose and peonies. I love perfumes with rose, but here I can’t bear it. I own Rose Prick and it fascinates me; there, the rose is better balanced. Here, it smells of overripe, withered roses, not fresh ones as others claim. To me, it’s a dry rose that evokes sadness and loneliness. I like it when only the base notes remain, but I won’t buy a perfume I don’t like from the start. I only wear it because my husband gifted it; otherwise, I would have sold or given it away. Well done to those who love it, but definitely not for me.
