Avon Segno is a woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2018, this composition was created by perfumer Yves Cassar. The top notes unfold with vibrant Sicilian lemon, black pepper, and basil; the heart reveals a warm blend of whisky, Haitian vetiver, and lavender; while the base notes land with elegance through Ambertonic, leather, and patchouli.

Better blend; it smells of man, wood, leather, and whisky from start to finish; the citrus is barely noticeable until an hour or more has passed. In my opinion, I like it, it’s easy to wear, and perfect for informal gatherings with friends. The longevity isn’t great: about two hours on skin and around four on clothes. Considering the value for money, it’s not bad at all; it’s cheap and lets you wear it all the time.

The opening is superb; it smells refined and expensive, with a realistic leather note like new shoes and a sweet, fresh amber. However, after two hours it falls flat: copper and a synthetic ambroxan emerge, reminiscent of Dior Sauvage but with a tropical Acapulco twist. A decent attempt by Avon; if the dry-down lasted four hours, it would be gold. I was strict about the dry-down because that’s what truly matters. Most Avon customers will get along well with this. It’s not the cheapest (around $25), but it’s worth it.

  • Opening: lime and pepper for 15 minutes, then a skin scent. At half an hour: vetiver and amber, no citrus, with a light pepper note. At two hours: the vetiver has faded, leaving only amber and a very faint pepper. At three hours: just amber until four, always a skin scent. I overapplied (20 sprays) and it still didn’t last. I noticed no whiskey or alcohol, nor does it resemble Dior Sauvage. There’s no ambroxan. It’s pricey for what it offers. Black Suede Intense lasts longer, smells the same and costs half as much. Poor value for money; I don’t recommend buying blindly. Addendum: After using it several times, my view changed: with overapplication, I detected the whiskey in the first two hours, alongside lemon and vetiver, reminiscent of a drink with ginger ale. I prejudged it, I must admit. It adds a touch of elegance, without being overly elegant. I’m starting to like it. I recommend the shower gel and body spray; the fragrance lasts 6–7 hours and the value is acceptable.

I hope I’ll like it; I ordered it after seeing it in the catalogue. I smelled it and it seemed to be of fine manufacture; Avon tends to extremes—their fragrances are either loved or hated. Yves Cassar is a great perfumer, so I hope not to disappoint. It reminded me of Carlo Corinto, Pour Lui or Very Irresistible. If I don’t like it, at least I’ll wear it daily until I’ve used enough to judge its maturity, as it has already arrived and I’ll review the result.

  • charlotinable

I’ve already tried it and yes, I quite liked it. It reminds me of Carlo Corinto and Pour Lui by D&G. I detected lavender, patchouli, oak and vetiver. There’s a dry, sweetly spicy aftertaste from the pepper, though without leather notes, which I sensed strongly. In short: rich, smells expensive and delicious. One small flaw: it’s not very potent; the trail is light and it stays soft. If it’s subtle, it lasts longer if you apply it to your clothes.

  • Old school, it smells like a grandfather heading to buy bread at 6 am, but once dry, it reveals a leather similar to Zara True Leather, just kinder. Demand a discount when buying it.

  • From Avon’s premium range, this has brutal creaminess, ochre and masculine notes. The liquor seems dissolved in creamy amber tonics; synthetic yet very well executed. It’s the creamiest wood I’ve tried, lasting incredibly long. I love that it reminds me of shaving cream from a distance.

  • From Avon’s premium range, this has an absolutely brutal creaminess. It’s a masculine ochre where the liquor seems dissolved into creamy tonal amber notes; those synthetic molecules feel fantastic. It’s the best representation of creamy wood I’ve tried and it lasts incredibly long. In some distant way, it reminds me of shaving cream and I love that.

  • A perfume I bought on offer at Avon and then turned into one of the most expensive. It has a citrus and caramelised opening, like lemon-flavoured chewing gum. Then lavender emerges with something gourmand I can’t quite distinguish (chocolatey?). The spiced part (pepper) joins in with the lavender. The whole combo is pleasant. The patchouli is present and gives context of cola cut with lemon and spice. It lasts over nine hours with moderate to high projection. Being sweet, spiced and potent, it can be intrusive. Being linear and sharp, it becomes overwhelming. Up close to the skin, you perceive the woody note, but not in the trail. What I don’t like is the final dry-down: that initial lemon together with the patchouli becomes acidic and rancid on my skin. This stage makes up 70% of the fragrance. At first I liked it, but with use I stopped liking it; I don’t dislike it, but I no longer feel comfortable. CONCLUSION: Being a catalogue item, it has great performance in longevity and projection, unusual for Avon. But it doesn’t convince me for two-thirds of the wear and its dry-down. It’s not unpleasant, but I don’t think it’s worth buying blind.

  • “Creamy sweet whisky”. Finally, this blind buy has arrived and exceeded my expectations. I previously bought Segno Success and was disappointed, but this one seemed acceptable. I say ‘acceptable’ because the price is high and it wouldn’t fit in the bargain bin. Nevertheless, it’s a Mid-Range option to vary your gourmand arsenal. Scenarios: it’s sweet with good trail and projection. It projects moderately to heavily for about two hours and lasted seven hours, which is more than acceptable. It stands out in night scenarios, bars or pubs. It has refined wood, but the opening and heart intensity can be suffocating in the office. It’s not for hot climates or daytime wear. More for semi-formal attire and men over 30. On cold nights, it can be pleasing due to the quality of the woody notes (very good quality patchouli) and invite closeness, although in very hot summer it can become oppressive. It has its own identity and is a valid and distinct option. It wouldn’t be my first choice, but it will always be considered. Price in Argentina ranges from 25 to 35 dollars, better than some designers, especially reformulated linear fragrances from the 80s or 90s. Not the best, but without a doubt among my top 20 gourmands. According to offers, I will buy it again. Scent: 7. Quality: 6. Longevity: 7. Projection: 7. Versatility: 4.

  • Avon Segno is one of the best fragrances from this brand, a tasteful woody whisky that reveals personality, made for the sophisticated man. It’s not a trendy scent, but it’s modern and charming, different from today’s trends yet following the formula of fresh woods that give it a pleasant character. It’s fantastic, it measures up against any designer proposal and stands out. Highly recommended, buy blind with confidence. Pity it seems discontinued and is no longer in the men’s catalogue. Scent: 9.0. Projection: two hours on average, maybe three at most. Longevity: six hours. Recommended.

  • One of the few Avon perfumes I’d recommend spending money on. It has a vintage vibe with good performance. I bought it on promotion with a shower gel and definitely liked it, but it’s not a youthful scent. It smells like a gentleman, a mature man, I’d say for over 35. I was fascinated by the opening: peppery with a well-marked whisky note and, although not declared, I can definitely detect cinnamon. Seeing the vetiver note tells you it won’t be that boring modern sweet perfume. It’s a masculine, old-school aroma, alpha-male type. It loses a bit of quality in the final dry-down after four hours, where a note appears that I don’t like. It’s the same one I get at the end of Bentley Intense for Men. I’m not sure what it is, I imagine it’s patchouli. If you can get it on offer for under $20, it’s okay; above that, there are better options. But yes, I recommend it if it’s under that price.

I was fascinated by the opening: peppery with a well-marked whisky and a cinnamon note that isn’t listed. When you detect vetiver, you know it won’t be a modern, sweet fragrance. It’s a masculine scent, old-school, alpha male type. It loses quality in the final dry-down after four hours with a note I don’t like, just like in Bentley Intense. I imagine it’s patchouli. If you can get it on offer for under twenty dollars, it’s fine; above that, there are better options. But yes, I can recommend it if it’s below that price.

  • Very similar to Black Suede Intense from the same brand. Perhaps it’s a bit more refined and the whisky is more noticeable, but they can be alternated if your budget is tight, as the differences are small.

  • I can’t believe it’s been discontinued; luckily I managed to get a bottle. Among men’s fragrances, its scent quality is far superior to others and reminds me of Black Suede Intense, but in terms of quality, Segno has no equal. It garners compliments, is long-lasting, stately and serious in character. You can detect woods, spices, boozy whisky and vetiver. Excellent, highly recommended, and I repeat: worth considering. If it returns, I’d buy it without a second thought. Perfume bomb.

  • Honestly, it doesn’t smell like a catalogue fragrance; the longevity exceeds seven hours and the quality competes with designer brands.

  • JavierSantana

Reviewing again: They sold me this as a leather bomb with liquor, but I was wrong. It doesn’t smell of leather; it has a very high-quality vetiver base, a rich liquor that smells like malt with roses, fresh Mediterranean lemon, a slight sweetness and spiced woods. To be frank, I see myself wearing it in summer in my city on days that aren’t too hot, thanks to that sparkling lemon. It has a blue aura without being generic, leaning towards Terre d’Hermes with the vetiver-citrus combo. The alcoholic note adds complexity. Performance is solid, even better on clothes. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it’s not bad either. Here in Zacatecas, it works well from spring to warm autumn. Blessings.

  • The Segno line is one of Avon’s best for men. This is no exception: it’s good, though not groundbreaking. It’s a classic, old-school scent. The whisky, leather and pepper give it that masculine vibe. Longevity is acceptable for the price. Honestly, I wouldn’t wear it; it seems too mature. If you’re under thirty, go for the Success version instead, which is undoubtedly the best in the line.

  • metroidsoldier

I love that the cap includes an atomiser, but this Segno feels elegant, woody and formal; it almost smells of lemon between leather and whisky.
