Descripción

Tolu by Ormonde Jayne is an oriental woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2002, this composition was created by perfumer Geza Schoen. The top notes unfold with orange blossom, juniper and clary sage; the heart reveals orchid, rose and valley lily (lily of the valley); while the base notes settle on Tolu balsam, amber, tonka bean and olibanum frankincense.

In general, Ormonde Jayne’s proposals share a common thread: an elegant, refined, and classy base tone. At first, I notice the balsamic aspect quite strongly, along with a hint of alcohol, as if the pyramid were inverted, featuring that Tolu balsam I adore—lighter than Peru balsam but more intense than benzoin. Curiously, the aroma is quite floral. The notes are pleasant, and the olfactory aura seems delicately laden with iris, though undeclared, and a rose that hides and reappears. Over time, it settles on the skin, transforming into something very powdery, with an opoponax touch and a strong amber accent. Despite the preciousness of the blend, the elegance of Tolu remains intact, and the fragrance never becomes heavy, maintaining that transparency that makes it wearable, with about five hours of longevity on my skin. A level perfume, which I discovered thanks to the kindness of Master Pedro.

  • I’ve finally found the holy grail! I’ve been head over heels for the scent of Diptyque’s 34 Boulevard Saint Germain candle for years—that special blend of moss and spices. The trouble is, Diptyque released a perfume from that line that smells nothing like it. But then, with this Tolu, look what happens: it smells identical to the candle and has made me the happiest man in the world. If you’ve ever smelled that candle, you know exactly what I mean; if not, you simply must try it. It’s a unique scent: predominantly floral and green with spicy and resinous nuances. Totally unisex and 100% versatile. It has everything.
