Julie Massé
Julie Massé is a talented perfumer known for her creative style, her passion for fragrances, and her personal warmth. She was born in Tokyo and lived there until the age of five before moving to France, where she developed a deep love for perfume and fragrances. Her father’s family has roots in Grasse, and he studied at the Roure perfumery school.
Julie pursued her passion for fragrances by studying chemistry and perfumery at the ISIPCA perfumery school in Versailles. After graduating, she began her apprenticeship at Fragrance Resources as a quality controller in Grasse. During her time there, she met her mentor, Pierre Bourdon, who taught her the traditional perfumery method of Jean Carle and encouraged her creativity.
Julie’s talent and hard work paid off, and she soon joined the French creation team at Fragrance Resources. She then moved to MANE, where she worked with renowned perfumers such as Christine Nagel and Cécile Matton on fragrances for Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent and other top-level brands.
In 2012, Julie was approached by Dom De Vetta, the founder of Shay & Blue, to create six inaugural fragrances for the brand. Her innovative and accessible fragrances were a success, and she quickly became an emerging fragrance superstar. Today, she is the perfumer for Shay & Blue and continues to create fragrances that are both familiar and intriguingly different.
Julie finds inspiration in the visual arts, architecture, food, and encounters with others. She loves creating accords from scratch, finding contrasts and connections, and building fragrances that keep the strength of the accord. Her love for orange blossom and all its elements is evident in her fragrances, and she is deeply connected to her Mediterranean roots. She often visits her parents, who now live in Grasse, where she loves visiting the farmers in their fields of roses, jasmine and nard.
